Beautiful image to look at Kaylyn. Lots of compositional layers, starting out with the brush in the foreground, followed by the row of trees, which in turn lead your eye to the mountains behind and then topped off by an interesting sky. The sky would have been much less interesting, and quite visually distracting, if it were a cloudless blue. The overall tone gives this a very atmospheric feel. It appears quite cold -- was it? And where is Wildhorse Canyon? |

A ton of free flowing, meandering lines makes this a very interesting image, Marti. Also adding to the composition is the contrast between the very solid and broad branches and the slender and brighter vines. I wonder, as Mike points out, if the wood is made to look a little too gnarly and contrasty. Pleasing balance between the light and dark elements. Very creative get! |

Nice conversion from the original, Joe. The mill is well placed in the composition and the waterway gives a good leading line. I like the way that the sky retained a subtle coloring and suggestion of clouds. I'm not a big fan of light vignetting in general but in this case it works very well. The clump of green at the bottom helps add interest to the line formed by the left side of the canal, and your removal of much of the green at the lower left makes a big difference. Good job! |

Hindsight is always 20/20, but as for the shots where the heron was swallowing the fish, could you have raised the ISO up to at least 800 -- but probably into the low 1,000s -- and raised the shutter speed up to at least 1,200 -- or higher -- to avoid the blurring? With the focal length you were using, 1/800 second was just on the edge of being too slow for capturing action shots, especially considering the fact that you were hand holding the camera. |

Just personal preference, but the yellow cast might be a little bit too much. I like the line that starts at the wagon wheel and pot at the lower left and follows the curve of the 'horseshoe wreath' around the top and down to the pots on the lower right, and this forms a nice frame leading the eye to the doorway. Maybe a little too heavy handed on the vignetting, but overall a well done picture. |

The purple on purple works well, and you did a nice job of bringing out detail. This is not easy when the subject has very similar shades, particularly reds. The green stem is not too distracting and gives an anchor to the flower, so that it does not seem to be just floating in midair. |
