On my monitor it does appear too dark and contrasty, but the colors go well together and form a pleasing pattern, especially the single middle fungus being bookended with the two fungi above and below. |

Certainly reminiscent of impressionist painting -- getting away from the realistic and tending toward the somewhat abstract and essential feel for what you saw. The gap at the lower left hand side is distracting, and the solid ground you mentioned at the bottom seems like it was a part of the picture that you overlooked, and might have been cloned out or expanded. Other than that I find this to be a good and creative look at nature; the colors are a reminder that autumn might not be too far off. Well done! |

Nice recovery. The colors are muted in a pleasant manner as to convey a late afternoon setting, as you alluded to. Some might have been tempted to over- saturate the picture, so you did well to go on the conservative side. You did well as far as 'plumbing' the building and the turrets. I think perhaps the framing of the hospital by the trees could be reduced a bit by cropping in from the left just enough so that the left side is not quite so visually dominant. |

Nice composition, with the mine structure being framed (and overwhelmed) by the mountains which are the reason for the mine's existence in the first place. Here, like with so many examples of old buildings, it appears inevitable that nature will in the end triumph in reclaiming what once was man's. Perhaps you ended up with a bit too much of a yellow cast, which gives the mountains a kind of pastel look, and maybe there was a bit of haze that made it appear that the mountains lack contrast. With the filter you described this might be the effect you were looking for. Good result! |

A nice story being told here, just as in your July entry. The big difference between the two is the prominence of the artist, who in this image takes up much more of the composition, and I wonder what it would look like if you were standing farther back -- if that had been possible. As it is, though, he is well placed and there's plenty of room to his left to lead the eye into the vast expanse of the canyon. |
