Fine image! Very nice tonal range and exposure. Black and white lends itself to this setting, almost a "death valley days" feel to it. The mountain peeks are perfectly done. Beautiful textures in the barn. Nice to see the barn placed off-center. Even uncle Ansel might be proud of this image, except ... maybe too much sky. A lot of space not doing much to help the composition. I'm guessing you were trying for a balance with the negative space, but here there might be a little too much negative.
Overall, a great shot. |

Typo: the line near the end that includes "assume a ed" should read "assume a ed" |

I'm going to take the middle ground here. You were on the right track by blurring the spectators in the upper right -- I just think you didn't go quite far enough. Marti might have gone a little too far, IMHO. As mentioned by others, the tent is a problem but since the background is going to be blurred anyway I think you can probably get away with repeatedly cloning the trees over the tent, as Joe suggests, and the concrete pole next to it. I think Marti's blurring approach would work if the spectators were farther away. Nice capture of the horse rising off the ground, and the natural white color makes him really stand out. Interesting side point -- I've noticed in a lot of my rodeo shots that the rider's fingers assume a ed, almost relaxed shape, whereas you might think with the physical stress that they would be pointing straight out. Overall you did a nice job.

Very nice progression: the image reveals the foreground tree, the foreground tree reveals the back tree, the back tree reveals the distant trees. Vs and triangles all over the place. The texture of the bark gives a very solid feel to the picture. Nice job! |

Now that I'm looking at again, I wonder (if it was physically possible) if you could have gotten into a position where the far edge of the pond was visible and placed slightly below the fish, giving the illusion that the fish were flying above, and therefore out of, the water. |

So well done! I can't think of much to add by way of criticism; the butterflies are very sharp and the overall color is terrific. I'm guessing, since they don't allow tripods inside, that you used a telephoto hand held, without flash. If you did use flash, you pulled it off really well. Great job with the bokeh in the background. The pair give both a V and an M pattern. Perhaps crop in a bit from the left? Great job! |

Interesting idea Mike. The brightness of the upper background does seem to distract from the subjects, and the fish on the extreme left could be eliminated. With the background so bright (and busy), the fish seem to be -- lost is the wrong word -- a bit overwhelmed. |

Very nice result in combining all of the different exposures. I'm not all that familiar with Lightroom, but it seems like what you have here is an HDR picture, without the
over done look that you see in those kinds of edits. The composition is also really well done with the tree pointing the way to the valley beyond, and also "touching" it to unify the picture as a whole. Maybe you could crop in from the top a little and lessen the over-exposed parts of the clouds (at least the way it appears on my monitor) and saturate the greens in the foreground. The tree is nicely off centered, which allows for a sense of the vastness of the scenery beyond. Beautiful picture! |
