As I'm writing this it's pretty close to 90 degrees outside with the usual humidity, but as I look at your picture I can almost feel like it's closer to the mid 50s with a late afternoon sun warming my face. Beautiful fall colors, nice sun angle, and well done with the picture elements divided into thirds. Is the mane on the horse on the left a little blown out? Very nice!
For John: That's about 32 degrees and 13 degrees celsius respectively.... |

Interesting point -- I was so set on removing all the elements that made the falls seem less than pristine that I hadn't considered that leaving one person in might actually add to the composition. |

That might work -- I tend to look in the water to check for color balance, and here it seems to be quite neutral. Interested to see what you come up with. |

Great shot. As Marti says, this works well either as a color image or monochrome. I can't think of much to improve on this, except for me the diagonal line on the upper left is a bit of a distraction, in that it tends to lead the eye up out of the picture. Everything appears to be quite sharp and at the same time delicate. Kudos! |

I like the composition a lot. As Peggy says, it is looking out to the activity that lays before it, standing watch and protecting mariners. You caught the color in the distant hills perfectly. I kind of like the sky. The ship on the left is moving "away" from the border, and toward the middle, which enhances its position in the composition. I might have brightened the foreground and the lighthouse itself a bit more to give even more separation from the mid and background. Nice line from the lighthouse to the ships and surrounding hills. Well done. |

Very clever result Joe, a technique I wasn't aware of before. I like the placement on the rough background, almost as if someone had just unearthed a million year old fossil. The colors are well done, giving a uniformity to the "fish." The only negative is that some of the sections are difficult to identify as fish parts. The eye is perfect. This would look great printed and mounted on someone's kitchen wall, and even as part of the set on a TV cooking show. |

Could be my monitor, but the picture seems over-exposed, but like you say the small file size might be the cause. Could the tall building on the left be cropped out entirely? I think there is slightly too much road visible, but it does provide a nice leading line; I see a nice Z line from the building to the bicyclist to the path of the road. Very sharp. Perfect coloring in the sky, but there seems to be not a lot going on, visually, with all of that uniform blue. |

Overall an nice picture. As has been mentioned, the sky is overdone. The weeds in the foreground seem a bit bright. Could you have moved a bit farther back so that the whole barn could have been included? The sky, trees on the left, and the weeds frame the barn very well. Perhaps the red of the barn is a little too saturrated -- the wood does seem to have weathered over the years, and maybe the paint job looks a little too new in your final adjustment. |
