Thanks Bev for commenting. I think this shows how important and powerful a color palette can be to an image; in this case it really pulls down the farmscene. |

I'm leaning towards the original composition; it seems softer and more emotive. |

Nice environmental portrait of the grande vista's in the Badlands with their striking geologic deposits complete with local inhabitants for added value. Well seen, captured, and processed.
I would suggest considering a further crop up from the bottom and in on the left to just leave an edge of the rock deposit. This would move the primary animal to the left away from of its more central location to a more dominant position in the composition. I believe a pano composition would enhance the grande vista. Then a run through Gigapixel to regain lost data. |

I like how the water and bridge form a base triangular shape for the composition, with the midground trees supporting that form from behind, the cabin breaks it up and adds interest and visual tension and the distant trees accentuate.
Your approach to developing the image in different layers is quite nice; I would perhaps reduce the highlights more in the central area of the midground trees and try to bring out the black trunks more to provide a broader tonal range.
Nice image overall. |

For me my main interest is the arches, the translucency of the foliage, the tree upper left that mimics the shape of the arch, and all the tonality and texture of the block construction.
So I cropped Lance's edit to emphasize just those elements. Definitely a location that can be revisited many times. |

I very much enjoy this rendering which enhances the IR effect by making the foliage translucent. |
