Until seeing this crop I hadn't noticed how that single branch is reaching out so defiantly! Well seen Todd. Now the image has impact. |

Your suggestion San is appealing. At the time I edited it I had just attended a B&W workshop online and see I overdid it a bit. Attached is result of increasing exposure 1 stop. Thanks for your input & welcome aboard! |

I enjoy the evening light on the Chula, or as Pierre says the lions guarding what appears to be the very hot dry atmosphere of an Arizona sunset. A surprising amount of evenly dispersed growth in such a harsh dry land. I believe you've caught the beauty of the desert. |

The "light illuminates and shadows define" is so very evident here. The sense of depth, mood and atmosphere you captured here reminds me of an old Dutch master landscape painting. There is a lot of misdirection from the trees random positioning that adds mystery and drama and keeps me focused and exploring within the frame and on to the light at the rear. Very well seen and developed! Welcome to our group. |

This is a remarkable capture under the challenging conditions of f4 1/30 handheld while in a touring group of people. The subject is a cave with all its otherworldly shapes and lines illuminated by garish colorful lights shot over a pool of flat mirror reflective water.
Upon first viewing the image the intense color alone drew my eye. It seems to overpower all the details contained in the image. San's B&W rendition removes the distraction of color and helps me focus on what else is in the frame.

Oh Pierre you are correct. I shot from directly above. I have other images shot more from the side, which are not as flat, but chose this one as I liked the rivulets in the sand. They might have worked better.....my bad. |

Wonderfully moody and atmospheric image enhanced by your focus on the fore and mid-ground gold detailed rocks. The prominence of the mid-ground rock grounds the image for me but wonder if the transition from gold to dark rock base could be more gradual. I enjoy the glimpse into the foreground water. Well done Todd. |

The color, light, pattern and rhythm of the trees draws me into this image. To enhance that sense of rhythm and make it even more dynamic and to help keep your focus on that pattern I cropped it into a pano. |

The infrared created a pleasing muted color palette that combined with diminishing perspective and negative space create a well balanced composition. The hook for me in this image is the effect of wind & storm on the shape of the branches and the translucent infrared effect on the foliage and sky. Nicely captured and developed. |

The image is busy with lots of different textures. To help simplify the scene keep the focus on the texture of the cypress, knees and lilles as well as their reflections I cropped in tighter. This also eliminated the lawn which being bright my eye was drawn to. |

The hook for me in this B&W image is the contrast between the dark limbs of the trees against their soft translucent leaves as well as the dark sky and the puffy clouds.
To make this more apparent I cropped off the tree to the right. |

I like the graphic linear aspect of this filter effect. Also that it' so quick & easy. |

Thank you Gary. That light spot is actually a hot spot which is a common problem with some lens used for IR as you stop down the shutter. I tried to reduce it's presence in Lightroom. But I like your explanation better! |

Yes Lisa I LOVE storms and that sky is why I stopped and took off the lens cap. I thank Chan for reminding me of my original intent when I captured the image. I got off on a tangent working the foreground and forgot to keep those clouds as the main subject. |

So right Lisa. I've heard that many times and must admit my follow-up is poor.......will try to remember to try that. |

Thanks Chan for your thoughtful comments. By opening up the foreground and trying to diminish the lens hot spot I drew the eye away from the storm. Thanks for the wake-up! How's this? Posted: 05/03/2020 14:11:23 |
