70 Aug 19 Reply Gave Todd's suggestion a try in LR by brushing the unlit umbrella's with a warmer temp, increase in exposure & saturation, and opened shadows. Aug 16th
70 Aug 19 Comment Rereading all these comments reminds me that our eye certainly is drawn first to what is light, bright, sharp, and of a warm color. Which advances in the scene while the cool colors recede. Aug 16th

70 Aug 19 Reply Thanks Glen. This lone chimney has been perched here since the cottage burned down in the '40's. Its cement hearth is now cracked and unstable causing it to lean. I keep returning to it before it too is gone. Aug 16th
70 Aug 19 Reply Good suggestion; thanks Todd. Aug 16th
70 Aug 19 Comment This travel image is sharp with good tonal range, contrast, and correct exposure of the bridge and what's beyond. The red boat you added provides scale and improves it. So technically it's fine, but it's missing something to stop my gaze to just explore and make me go Wow.

Perhaps the sentiment you have of what it took to get the image, or the people you were with when you shot it that gives it value to your collection.

70 Aug 19 Comment The backlit umbrellas are quite lovely. Unfortunately many of them are not lit as they're mounted below rooftop level and the sun isn't in the proper position to illuminate them. Wish they'd used more of them to shade the sky better.

Fun image that makes me want to stroll down and explore all the shops & cafe's. Nice leading lines and balanced colorful composition. Straightening the buildings helps.

70 Aug 19 Comment Thanks for sharing this unique and beautiful part of the world. This has strong overall impact compelling me to follow the leading line of the river back into the image. And the dividend of the string of what - seaweed? - streaming off the point adds nicely to my eyes journey deeper into the image. I think you framed it well especially since you caught it as a drive by; this composition has a nice triangular shape to it with an added bonus of fluffy clouds on top! Aug 11th
70 Aug 19 Reply Thanks Frans! I enjoyed his video; thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. I've seen some of his videos but had not seen this one; I do like his direct approach and helpful tips. You're correct; in this image I used a lot of local LR brushes to draw your eye where I wanted it to go. Aug 11th
70 Aug 19 Comment Marvelous job creating bits of petrified critters! Great texture and detail, shadows that really define and add depth and contour to the rocks and to have it set against the soft frilly sky is perfection. I too am drawn to that itty bitty distracting rock. Aug 10th
70 Aug 19 Comment You caught a fine moment with the mist hanging low on the wet grasses as first light rises up to an almost bald sky; just a few wisps of clouds. You certainly had to work quick to get all those images! I wonder if you could eek out more sky detail using the graduated filter and a touch of dehaze, negative highlights and temperature adjustment in post?
A pleasing composition; the sun with its marvelous rays is balanced by the tree. I like the warm light, sharp grasses and long shadows on the foreground lawn as well as the diagonal lines of the canal. Frans' edit does seem more mysterious & dramatic and has definite black and white points whereas I don't see strong blacks in yours. Artists choice. Nice pano.

70 Aug 19 Comment A unique perspective compels me to look and notice the incredible breadth and immensity of Angel Oak highlighting her arms that have just keep on growing out and out and out. Wikipedia states her longest branch is 187' long! This image has impact and tells a story.
I've shot this tree many times when in the Charleston area and am always fighting the sunny spots and deep shadows; good tip Lamar; will try for an overcast day.
The subject is clear but other than the photographer who adds a sense of scale to this giant the other people and signage clutter it up. The lower corners of the image seem bright and vacant; perhaps a vignette would help.

91 Aug 19 Reply That's definitely worth considering. Thanks Mark! My focus was on making the foliage golden, but in original2 the building seems much stronger. Aug 16th
91 Aug 19 Comment It was pointed out to me by a knowledgeable photo friend when I got my camera converted that the amount of infrared radiation from the sun is highest at noon, but the proportion of infrared radiation to light is highest just after dawn and just before sunset. Noon sun will also result in more of the deep-red/near-infrared fluorescence from chlorophyll. So if you find yourself wanting to shoot at noon, do it in IR!

I like this dramatic sky and the texture of the castle walls and Mark's corrected perspective. Nice composition. Clear white points and black points; pleasing contrast. Very nice.

91 Aug 19 Comment Unusual scene of an old tub mounted outside a building overgrown with weeds while advertising an old time price. Love the theme of the tub and old time advertising. However to me the windows, door, railing, and all the pipes everywhere make it very busy. I wonder if you might have a shot of the tub & wall straight on?

Nice conversion to B&W that renders the IR foliage in a nice light. In an attempt to simplify the scene I cropped and added some Lightroom texture to the leaves and a little vignette.

91 Aug 19 Reply Thanks Rick. You're so right; it's all overlapping & does seem confusing and messy. There are all those huge oaks behind the ruins and flanking it and my focus was on the overhead branches. I see I should have moved a bit to include some separating sky up above to keep all the foliage from merging. The brightest foliage is behind, so perhaps I'll try to darken it and brighten the foreground branches.......... thanks. Aug 8th

91 Aug 19 Comment Wonderful well placed S curve to lead us into the scene. Focus is sharp. Strong black and white points with good contrast. It shows off the IR spectrum on the tree and sky very nicely. Love the deep blue sky.

Do you have the original SOOC image?

91 Aug 19 Comment If I understand correctly, you set your custom WB in camera (on grass if in a natural setting or on concrete if in an urban setting.) I don't understand what it means or how to set a custom button for "super color" or "hyper color". Could you explain?

It doesn't appear you channel swapped in PS, so common with IR. Could you explain your reasoning?

This composition has a lot of depth; lovely detail in the brick that leads you back into the garden scene. The grassy aprons and flowers on both sides add a sense of balance but the tall pine overtowering the large egg shaped tree keeps getting my attention. I feel more negative space on the other side of the walk would help balance these heavy tall trees. Perhaps it's in your pano?

I like how you've straightened the sky details from diagonal to more level (how'd you do that?)and removed the flares and did away with the digital yellow sky.
