Loved learning about this very special far away spot! The water looks so colorful and clear; it must be incredible to dive there.
I love it as is; nice balanced composition enclosing an enticing lagoon with a boat showing you the way "out". |

This has great depth of field, detail, pattern, contours, and lines - all draw me in. The 16mm lens emphasizes the sandy foreground while diminishing the background mountains. The grand sky to me is trying to compete with this simplicity; it's almost two images.
I cropped with the intent to simplify the scene and emphasize the minimal color pallet, details, pattern, contours and lines. |

I like how you handled the motion of the clouds and the water. Very nice. The composition of the bridge with its curves and star light effects is pleasing. I do find the bulkhead pilings distracting and would prefer them burned darker. Don't see an easy workaround to eliminate them; most likely you'd loose too much of the bridge. |

Your GoPro image at the end of the 24' pole appears to have been shot level. Exploring the web for solutions to curved horizons one site mentions if the lens was tilted a bit up then the horizon will tilt down. I wouldn't think that would eliminate the earth's curvature from the image but perhaps reduce it a bit.
Fun to think about! |

Love the composition; the leading line of the creek bed taking you deep into the scene to the backlit trees cloaked in their golden colors of fall. The focus stacking is so effective. Which program do you use to blend the shots?
My monitor also finds the foreground rocks a bit blue and the grasses a bit bright. Lovely image. |

Loved hearing the story of Frying Pan Shoals. It's a shoal I'd head of but knew nothing about; thanks.
Thinking of the perils of the fast rising tide to any beachwalkers out there, I felt a vertical crop might tell the foreground to background story better than the horizontal as well as reduce the amount of horizon distortion which to me is distracting.
I used a radial filter to add some light onto the beachwalkers and the graduated filter on the sky.
Great use of the long pole to get up high!

How you liking your G9 Pierre? I hear great things...
I like this with "the lights turned on."
Your 12mm lens creates a very broad pano composition; from bright sunrise to the dark rivers almost unlit edge. |

Hi Todd. After I got my focused land shots with the moving clouds, I experimented with some quick pans in the final second of exposure. Some were ruined as my hand "bumped" the camera upon touching it to do the pan. This is about the only acceptable resulting image.
I use the Cokin slide in filters with the screw on rings. There was a good jet stream moving the clouds along but not much of a breeze at sea level.
On stormy days when it's quite windy I drape my camera bag over & around the big sturdy legs of my tripod to stabilize it; and if possible try to shoot with the tripod quite wide and low to help stabilize it. I never hang my bag from the center hook as the wind would cause it to swing like a pendulum. Never use my small lightweight travel tripod anymore as it can't hold still in a good wind; it vibrates in the gusts.

Thanks Pierre. I had focused manually before putting on the ND filter, then did a quick pan (which I forgot to mention) at the end of the exposure. I prefer it over my other "focused" shots. |
