Another great one from the archives of LuAnn. "They were standing next to each other communicating with each other via cellphone!" Well, yeah… who doesn't do that now? (except for foggies like myself). Do you ever get a greeting from anyone on the street? … they're just too busy on the cell… or maybe they just don't want to make eye contact. Anyway, I think your shot captured the essence of "life in the fast lane". Street photography is obviously your thing. Really nice capture. |

Nice one Israel. I like your subject and the way she was posed. Elbows tucked in close to her sides, body facing forward and head slightly turned… makes for a real interesting and attractive pose in my estimation. I would not have guessed that she was in any sort of temple, although she does have a covered head and a cross. I don't delve too much into portraits, but when I do I like to get at or slightly below my subject's eye level (which you did) and move in relatively close. In this kind of image I want my audience to home in on that radiant face and not drop attention to hands, dresses or any other objects. I downloaded your original, cropped tighter, went to a black and white image and did some slight light adjusting. Your take was perfectly fine and I don't claim to have improved it. I just hope to give you a few additional thoughts of bringing out the charm. |

Another thought-provoking image Pete! It usually takes me a day or two to review and think about what is presented by our group. I wont comment on the technical aspects of this one. You and our other experienced members pretty well nail the technicalities, and I think it was Ansel Adams who said something to the effect that there is nothing worse than a sharp image with a fuzzy concept. Not so here. My initial attention went to the umbrella handle. It just seemed to stand out more, and then I saw the hand which in turn led me to this gentleman's head, and I tied it all together… all in a fraction of a second. Damn I'm good! And then, I guess by coincidence, your image appears next to Lu Ann's entry. Exuberant youth in one and street poverty right next door! Talk about juxtaposition even though unintended.
A really good photograph such as this jars one awake once the thought process kicks in… at least in my case. Like you, I don't know how to explain why things are the way they are… especially in this the land of plenty. Powerful image though. I personally don't think you could express it any better.
