Very nice portrait Julie. To me Miss Georgia has a pensive stare that I think complements the color image with its subtle greens of the background and chair and her flesh tones. I do like the black and white also. You may have tried a shot slightly to her right in order to get more of her hand and arm in the view, and a slightly more turn of her head. I have found that some minor changes in angle can make a big difference for a final pose, but you may have done that. Nice image at any rate. |

Thanks much for the detailed comments LuAnn - butterflies and dragonflies are still very much in abundance around here so I must try your shutter speed tip. I do appreciate your attention to details - looking forward to your entry in October. |

Hi LuAnn. Personally I did not detect any chaos in your capture but probably some indecision as to which beer would be best with a Rueben. I think Bob's second crop works better than the first, but he did leave part of an arm hanging in the lower left corner. I do agree that the folks to the far left don't really add anything extra. Looks like there was some rain. There's nothing like a little beer to make the sun come out - good capture with some minor improvements. |

This unfortunate chap does have a distinct look and demeaner, and I can see why you were a little apprehensive Oliver. My attention is drawn directly to his eyes and gaze and I think darkening that background helped bring that out. I personally don't detect as much poverty or starvation from that stare as I do a sense of loneliness. Its a pretty powerful image in my estimation, and I think you made a pretty powerful capture. Its good when a photograph can take you beyond butterflies and flowers, don't you think? |
