David - You are correct and I think I can do a better job of cropping to the left. The scale is not immediately obvious and that does bother me somewhat - those boulders were really large and underappreciated the way I presented them. This part of the country is so immense with distances miles away - I am not used to capturing the wide open spaces - but willing to go back and try again. Thanks much for the input. |

Hi LuAnn - you are always just too kind and right on the money. The vegies do need more breathing room. The attached file is the original negative so I do have ample space to expand to the right - I just got a little too sloppy with my crop. Check out Bruce Barnbaum's website and the Volakis Gallery. His work is sensational, and if you have a working darkroom nearby, it is worth the experience to take a lesson or two. Thanks much for your comments and good shooting - looking forward to your entry in Feb. |

Now this guy does not look like a gangster to me. He has a rather calm demeanor - just checking out what might be for dinner or if he needs to pick up something on the way home. I like the gradual change in perspective leading me to this very unobtrusive gent. In fact, LuAnn, I might have included more of the steps in the initial crop thus pushing him a little farther to the right and accentuating that perspective some more. Anyway, I too think you nailed the tone and grain - very well done - interesting image in which the viewer could easily conjure up a storyline. So, do you know how effective Edna was in a bank holdup? |

Wow. To me this image has somewhat of a celestial or starlike quality - maybe I'm seeing some star trails or orbital patterns. Perhaps it is a collision of galaxies. Where is the State Farm agent when you need one, or who is the guy that causes mayhem? It is different and unique, and I think as an abstract image, you did a great job. |

Pandula - I really appreciate the soft, quiet expression and overall feel for this nude. It is to me especially beautiful in black and white. Until I opened the original, I was slightly confused by the model's left hand and fingers at her neckline. I wish she had just put an open hand at her throat as I feel those fingers cause some confusion. Perhaps others will voice an opinion about it. Also, I would soften that left cheek highlight to match the other very beautiful softer highlights of her shoulder and arms. It is indeed a very sensual image for a photographic subject that I think is way under appreciated. Nicely done. |
