Hi Denise - I believe you have effectively captured a Chevy hood ornament looking directly from above. I also believe that you have taken your shot from the "Palace of Depression", which I did indeed read about. This, however, in my estimation, is not a depressing shot. It is well composed with very pleasing pastel coloration - streamlined. Maybe the month of Feb. brings out depressing thoughts as I too had hoped to present that type of look and feel - no one seemed to like my cluttered, erratic composition - a derelict, washed up fishing boat that has seen better days. You have a nice shot here - Feb is almost over. Let's promise each other to present something more upbeat next month. |

Tam - thanks much for your crop - I do like it. I wanted clutter and rusted junk in the shot to illustrate the decay - trying to make a statement. I personally do not believe the rules of composition always need to be followed, and your take did bring out the boat better and nestled it in the "V" of the scrap - I appreciate it - thanks. |

Love it! no grain and the sky color contributes so much more to the overall effect - in my view it could not be better - this one should go on a wall, don't you think? |

Another beautiful shot from the Houston Theater, Hung. I cannot decide which of the three you have presented is the best, but they are all stunning. I need to attend the ballet more often (camera in hand) |

Malabika – I really like the painterly effect on this one. Your subject matter is excellent in my view, but I am having a little problem with the black and white – just doesn’t seem to “pop” for me. I would like to have seen it in color as I’m sure it would appear as a very lovely watercolor painting, and I think that maybe you could have adjusted the background colors using Photoshop or NIK. I like it though – I believe it has great potential and could compete with an Audubon if matted. |

Hey Al – this is one that I would not think of you as having submitted. Your horse and cow poke shots are outstanding – a little more concrete in composition in my way of thinking. This baby is very abstract, but see, here is where I am probably being more biased than I should. I really like the coloration and rock striations, and I like the lower half of the shot – I’m just not sure where my eye should focus, and that little whitish triangle (center left) kind of stops it in its tracks. If you want to see something busier, take a look at my shot this month – it’s a “boat wreck” not a “train wreck”. Those of us who venture into a different realm are never fully appreciated (until we're gone) – know what I mean? |

Harry – Ditto on taking over as administrator – I know we all wish the best for Denise.
Great photograph for this elderly gentleman from the East. In my view the flesh tones could not be better and you did very well capturing the gaze from his eyes and his pose. I think Shirley gave an excellent critique, and I am struggling to add any more – it is just another great portrait.

Shirley – I can see the completion is going to be fierce this month. This to me is a stunningly great shot of a Trumpeter in flight (I mean anyone can take a sharp shot of one on the ground) – everything is beautifully focused. I would not worry about the clouds – in fact to appreciate the high detail and coloration of bird and feathers, I would think that a background of clouds might tend to detract from your image. The higher ISO didn’t appear to me to do any harm either – since this is “before” sunrise it probably was more appropriate than not. Well taken photo and nicely post processed in my view. |
