2 Jan 17 Comment I see what you mean about the top - it is a little tight, but glad you left the railing - that is what you shot and I do not think things like that detract in any way. We tend to get to a point with manipulations where the original photo is so corrupt that it loses its meaning as a photo. I love PS and NIK, but there is a point where photography turns into graphic art - I guess that's not bad, but I'm a photographer. I think you are too. Jan 19th
2 Jan 17 Comment Al “ nice one “ very green. I agree with Shirley about giving more contrasting colors perhaps darkening the stand of trees leaning over from the upper right bank and which I would think would contribute some shadowy darkness. Having done that, I respectfully disagree with the right side crop. I would crop closer to the left shoulder taking out that vertical tree about where the sky shines through, and perhaps take an inch off the top. I like the way the right shoulder comes in to the corner of your picture “ the subtle “S” curves are great. I also feel that cropping tighter would give more attention to those lines drawing your eye around that curve. This baby has potential “ I hesitate to adjust other people’s work because it is yours alone and you know what you like. Jan 18th
2 Jan 17 Comment Hung “ I have to “ditto” what has been said. I love the pale-blue/off-white misty coloration “ fogginess of the morning light must have been very special and which is just so hard to beat most times. I was wondering if you were able to take more than one shot. I have been in similar situations with crowds and it is very hard to hold the camera high and shoot above heads, etc. I have had to set a faster shutter speed and squeeze off a couple of shots hoping for the best “ hand holding is tough - sometimes it works, but I do not like the method. You did very well under the circumstances. Jan 18th
2 Jan 17 Comment Shirley “ love it, love it! To my eye this shot truly displays your expertise in composition. I like the diagonality that leads my eye up along the roof line to the crucifix “ the diagonal direction of the clouds along with the steps and fence line tends to compliment that effect. In my opinion you did well by leaving the fence in the picture “ it adds "to" and does not detract "from". The color harmony and lighting are wonderful. If you want me to be a real nitpicker (and who wouldn’t want that?), I probably would have slanted the image a few degrees off the vertical and to the left (or at least tried it) when cropped. I’m thinking the cloud direction along with the diagonality within the picture cause an optical illusion of the building leaning slightly right “ could just be me or the Jack Daniels next to me “ really nice shot, seriously.

Thanks much for your comments on my church shot “ isn’t it amazing how great minds think alike? “ two church shots! I’m going to crop tighter per yours and Harry’s suggestion eliminating the buildings and foreground junk. Indeed, I am a world traveler, but my world is mostly here in L.A. (lower Alabama for those not familiar with the initials) “ got me a pickup and pretty much go to and fro with a tripod in the gun rack and twin Nikons on the seat. Lost my dog a few years back and still miss him “ probably should get another. It can be good shooting here in L.A., come on down and be a world class traveler!

2 Jan 17 Comment Harry “ very nice shot. Like Hung, at first glance I thought MACRO “ I don’t know what else to add that has not already been said “ an interesting and reflective shot. I was just in the panhandle and bought some Tupelo honey at a local farm on my way back north. Tupelo honey comes from the tupelo gum tree which grows along the Chipola and Apalachicola rivers of northwest Florida “ I guess bees there are still in abundance and actually I understand bee colonization to be increasing in most of the state - perhaps not in the southern areas. Tupelo honey is a light golden amber color with a greenish hue. The flavor is delicate and distinctive; a choice table grade honey “ nothing but the best for this kid (and nothing to do with photography). I seriously do hope things improve down your way “ the shot itself is a very nice capture. Jan 18th
2 Jan 17 Comment Malibika “ Wow, what great geometry and balance “ juxtaposition - opposing curves on the right and vertical lines to the left with the fulcrum being your very red building in the middle. This is almost a panoramic view “ my eye moves horiaontally right to left being drawn in first by the beautiful green Ferris wheel/reflection. Don’t know where the fireworks were, but if you were able to incorporate some of them (which I suspect you would have done had it been possible), it might just “put the icing on the cake” “ but at any rate, fireworks or not, in my view a very nicely composed and colorful shot.
