53 Jun 21 Reply Ooooo! I really love this one, too! Jun 22nd
53 Jun 21 Reply I guess I learned a little sumpin' from working with monochrome. d;¬{D Jun 20th
53 Jun 21 Comment Those workshops really give photographers a chance to up their game with the helps they have in place. They're a little controversial when it comes to competitions, but that's not important here.

I just had to see what it would look like with a black background. Thoughts?

53 Jun 21 Comment Right place at the right time, Dan! I can't imagine a better ad shot than this.

I had to play around with it, of course. Thoughts?

53 Jun 21 Reply Nice finish to a great shot. Jun 20th
53 Jun 21 Comment OMG, Brenda! Spookilicious (spooky and delicious at the same time). I would love to see the original of this - it would be so helpful to see where it started from. Jun 20th
53 Jun 21 Comment I hope your camera was protected from the storm that hit. Looks might have been rather intense, especially after Stuart's rendition. d;¬{D

A fascinating place and the choices of subjects must have been a little overwhelming - at least it would have been for me.

I did my typical Dodging & Burning - added a blank layer set to the Overlay blend mode, then painted with a soft round brush with 5% opacity in white to dodge or black to burn. I brightened the subject rock and darkened its shadow areas and the flat rocks in the background to help the subject rock to stand out more. Thoughts?

53 Jun 21 Comment Lovely vista, Rusty. Even without my added dino, the marina gives a good sense of scale. I do think there was a very slight tilt to the horizon and there was a bit too much sky. I thought it could use a bit more contrast and a wee bit of brightening. What do you think? Jun 20th
53 Jun 21 Reply How's this? Jun 20th
53 Jun 21 Reply That's high praise from an artist like you. d:¬{D Jun 20th
53 Jun 21 Reply If you study the water, you'll see the noise, but it's not a major distraction for my eyes - more like grain. Jun 18th
53 Jun 21 Reply What about the composition? Jun 18th
53 Jun 21 Reply Great catch, Miriam! I guess I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Jun 12th

95 Jun 21 Comment I guess I'll have to be the odd man out, but I was totally enthralled by your image. The shallow DOF didn't bother me a bit and it reads as almost hi-key which works well for the colors in this flower. As floral photography is one of my passions, I've been enjoying your submissions each month. d;¬{D Jun 21st
95 Jun 21 Comment Very impressive capture. Great detail demonstrating your proper angle that's parallel to the subject.

I concur about the background, which would have been extremely difficult to deal with at the time of capture.

I Took it into Affinity Photo and used a combination of Clone Brush Tool, Inpainting Brush Tool, and Blur Brush Tool to cleanup the background in the areas where it mattered. Thoughts?

95 Jun 21 Comment Stuart is right about the shallow DOF and specular highlights. Not that I'd be able to any better handheld with the shake in my hands.

I brought your original image into Affinity Photo, ran it through Topaz Denoise AI & Topaz Sharpen AI, softened the background, and healed out the specular highlights. Thoughts?

95 Jun 21 Reply It's called the Spot Healing Brush, Stuart. d;¬{D Jun 21st
95 Jun 21 Reply Your version looks like something completely different, like an aerial view of parched ground. Much more interesting. I guess my image is a failure as it is. d:¬{( Jun 10th
95 Jun 21 Reply The more I study it, the more I agree that it's boring. d:¬{( Jun 5th
95 Jun 21 Reply Yikes! I'm allergic and the thought of getting close to either gives me the willies! d8¬{O Jun 5th
95 Jun 21 Reply I'm here to learn to be a better macro photographer. I look for honesty, not compliments.

I never use saturation, only vibrance, and I do set my white point just below burn-out. As it was, there were some specular highlights that I removed with the Inpainting Brush Tool (equivalent to the Spot Healing Tool in PS).

I will work with the exposure and/or brightness adjustments and see what I get. Will also work with the HSL adjustment in the orange and yellow bands. Thanks.

95 Jun 21 Reply What is your suggestion for making it less "muddy"? Jun 3rd
