To your point, from my experience the use of a graduated filter at sunrise inevitably produces a better reproduction of the sky than without the filter. Thus my experience supports your belief. It should be the case that so long as the sensor is not overloaded by the cloud highlights, one could equally well achieve the same effects in post processing. However, I find that the use of a software graduated filter , though it may come close, rarely is able to reproduce the on-camera filter. |

The tufts of golden grass set the composition well for the scenery beyond the river here. The details of the rocky mesa and rising mountain appear crisply in a pleasing range of blues and are a perfect complement to the golden highlights! |

The fortuitous placement of the bighorn(?) skull - long since desiccated- adds a new dimension of story-telling to this image. Your treatment of the oven-baked earth here is excellent , both as to the grazing light, point of view, and aperture, and integrates well into the overall composition. I wonder if a polarizing filter would add some depth to the sky - might be worth a try. |

Very nicely captured sky with remarkable crispness! Conifer silhouettes against the brightening horizon convey a sense of being far from the city lights and a road to "nowhere". I would say that your 3am trip was quite worthwhile! |

Image presents all the pleasing elements of a busy Japanese urban setting in a compact composition nested around a central canal. The sky replacement appears efficiently done, with realistic cloud reflections on the canal . Nicely done! |
