To my eye the most striking features are the shapes of the mountains of varying tonality. To better feature them one might compose the scene as suggested. A wider panoramic view might also be worthwhile, depending upon what is to the left of the current scene. |

A very satisfying composition that radiates that frigid feeling that only standing on the shore on a winter morning brings! The rhythmic waves add to the harmony of the water and sky. A passing boat or bird would be useful but seldom see in this season. |

Terrific image ! Rich golden hues brought into harmonious shapes by dark umber/black bands. The two humans would be useful elements if a bit larger, although they do give so idea of scale ; however this image holds its own without any scale. |

The spire on a triangular spit of rock is a haunting and powerful silhouette. Your idea of supplying additional light was a good direction, but the image still needs more exposure of the foreground area , as the others have pointed out - perhaps an old fashioned "hdr" approach with one image tailored to sky exposure and a second exposed for the foreground. |

The butterfly weed does make a nice focal point in the image along with the burro. The sky looks to have a slight magenta hue that I don't see in the original. I personally like the cooler look for the sky.
As a suggestion for additional views - hopefully the burro would stay in place or even come forward for a handout if you angled around - the old gate and framework on the left looks like it would make an interesting foreground frame .

The transformation from the original to the final image is rather remarkable. At magnification I can see numerous objects in the background that are not visible in the original that perhaps accompanied the replacement of the sky.
I like the cropped version -Judy's and San's - that improves the dark presence on the left side of the image.
A final question: which version is more like what you saw on the morning that you took the image?
