Forty minutes before sunrise is a very serene time of the day and you have captured a perfect image to convey serenity. The echoed tree clusters line up along the diagonal but do not disturb the harmony and balance intrinsic to the scene. Exposure is just right. |

The aged and splintered wood along with what is left of the stone wall combine to tell the story of this image. The mountain vista still framed by the old window hints at the grandeur of this timeless view.
I generally prefer the black and white version, but observe that the lake at the foot of the mountain becomes a picture element in color. And the bright sky and clouds also come to life in color. Either way , it is a winner!

Great star trails! It looks like you have this technique down solidly. The foreground shapes and illumination are a bit superfluous to my eye and tend to be too close to the bullseye. A simpler silhouette might work out better here.
Great job on the sky!

I think the compositional changes definitely work to advantage here. As you say, they impose an order and flow that is missing in the original composition.
The upper left, multiple flows among the greenery would also make a very nice image as seen through a 100 or 200mm lens from this vantage point.

This is quite a fascinating image ! The columns of this grand cathedral appear in this perspective as the many legs on an "insect".
And I applaud your methodology: there is much to be said in favor of the simple approach to creative photography.
Of the variations presented, I tend to favor the original and the black and white versions. The featured image appears to my eye to have a "processed" look. The black & white version I see as a better representation of the essential features of what I imagine the cathedral might look like in person. The color gradations in the original better convey a sense of depth than does the B&W.
It is all very solid photography - vantage point, composition, and exposure. Well done!
