This is a very nicely framed shot of the majestic falls. Congrats on trekking over to this strategic vantage point! On my monitor the falls are tending toward gray and could be brightened up a bit to good advantage. The trees in the foreground are nice and sharp, but it looks like focus is fading going toward the falls; e.g. see the extended limb at bottom right. |

The huge oak limbs make an effective, overhead leading line into the ruins. The single shot here does a very nice job in presenting the entire architecture in a nutshell. It is good to have blue sky included! I too am glad that you found the ruins to be interesting. |

The reflections on the water are striking and final exposure of the composite looks just right. Composition-wise it would be nice to have more of the tree reflection in the foreground since that is the key feature of this image. How does your composite compare to the single image shot at 0-compensation? |

!. Depth of field and background. The background clutter is still pretty much present at this working distance, at f/11@50mm. You will have to increase the aperture to 2.8 or so to blur the background, and then the d.o.f. may not be quite enough to get in the various stages of growth that you are shooting for. Nowadays, the state of the art is to get several "slices" at differing focal points into the flower and merge them with some specialty software. I would shoot the first image with a 100mm, f/2.8 macro lens here with short working distance to blur the background as a first priority and, and then close down on the aperture in increments with following shots to buy some additional d.o.f.
2. Sharpness. Your red flower has reasonable but not optimal sharpness at the stamens where I would want the focus to be tack sharp. Handheld at 1/30 seconds, you are pressing your luck for this shot even with vibration damping or whatever Sony calls their solution. Better to use a tripod.
3. Most flower shooters carry a water mister to dust the flowers with water vapor before the shot. |
