Hi Gerard - I agree with the concept of using higher ISO to allow handheld photos. I also experiment with this and try to use post processing software to reduce the noise as needed. As far as your final image, one has to take into consideration what the photographer is looking to accomplish. As such, I really like this as an artistic photo. It captures my attention, is pleasing to the eye, and causes me to really spend time looking over the photo. However, in my opinion, I prefer Original 2 with the more realistic look and, again in my opinion, a better handling of the fog. Nice work on both images! |

Hi Cheryl - I like the final image as it gives a "painting effect". Excellent use of color and nice reflection on the water. However, personally I am not a big fan of the Orton Effect as I tend to like more sharp images (allowing for the appropriate use of depth of field). As such, I really like your original image! In my opinion, the original image is a nice, sharp panorama with excellent detail and overall sharpness. As far as your note regarding focal point (point of interest), in my opinion, while having a main point of interest is important, in some landscape photos I believe that the overall image serves as the point of interest. Some who emphasize point of interests will disagree with me, however I believe a good landscape photo will allow my eyes to roam and enjoy the entire image. Your images here fits this criteria well, nice work! |

Hi Dan - Excellent image! I really like the blue tone that emphasizes the cold setting. The pink hue is a perfect contrast to the blue. I agree with not using a vignette to continue the emphasis on the blue (cold). I also really like the composition...the "star", the island, and the rock form a triangle which keeps my attention in this area of the image. Personally, I would not change a thing. Nice work! I really learn a lot from your images, especially in the area of proper composition. I look forward to more images this new year! |

Hi Emily - Nice image! I like the descending turbines on the right along with the details in the mountains and clouds. In my opinion, the focus is on the descending turbines near the center. As such, a couple of thoughts to consider...the electric lines and the turbines on the left side seem distracting to me. You might want to consider cropping the left side out (cropping just to the right of the electric pole) along with a slight crop on the right side. This would focus attention on the descending turbines. Then clone out the electric lines (Photoshop clone tool works well for this). Lastly, perhaps a little more contrast to bring out the turbines. Nicely captured image, especially while in a moving car! Nice work! |

Hi Robert - nicely captured image, good eyes to pick this up. In my opinion, the strength of this image is the image as a whole. The rocks, composed in an excellent manner diagonally across the image and in a triangular pattern, are the main focus while the flowing water captures the sense of movement. I like Cheryl's crop, and like the revised image in Emily's comments. The smoothness of the flowing water contrasts well with the details in the rocks. Nice work! |
