Steven - excellent use of color in this photo! I really like the creativity expressed here. This image does indeed have a painterly quality. I tend to agree with Lance's crop in order to reduce the brighter spots at the top. Excellent work...in my opinion this would look great hanging on a wall! |

Hi Gerard - nice photo. You definitely did a great job of portraying the mood of the scene. The sharpness and DOF is very good. The composition, especially the seawall is very good and leads my eye throughout the image. I like the vignette to create more focus. One thing to possibly consider, with the tonal contrasts in this image and the various textures, perhaps experiment with converting this to a black and white photo. I believe this photo would be well suited for this. Well done! |

Hi Cheryl - excellent image! I like the color scheme and the sharpness/solid DOF throughout. A really excellent part of the image to me is the fact that you not only captured the reflections of the shoreline, but also the reflection of the soft cloud structure. This really adds to the quality of the photo. As far as the discussion above regarding cropping, I like Robert's crop as well. However, to me the strong leading lines of both shorelines (triangle effect) causes me to want to leave the image alone, as you have it. Since the light source appears to be on the left side (skyline and sky itself), perhaps you could experiment with lightening the right side shoreline and reflection a little to add more detail. Just a thought...great work! |

Hi Dan - this is in my opinion an excellent image as it is. This image to me portrays a pastoral sense or a sense of quietness. I like the strong DOF (I have never had much success with f/22). The reflections in the pond add to the quality of this image. I also like the soft clouds and color in the sky that adds to the "pastoral" effect. Other comments mention the composition and adjusting the crop. That is an option, however I believe this image composition is good as it is. In my opinion, this image would do well in any competition...nice work! |

Excellent image Robert! You have definitely achieved your goal of instilling a quietness effect. I like the excellent DOF and the overall sharpness. The yellow trees in the background provide depth to the image and was well handled. I agree with the others that the foreground appears a little too bright. I also think it would be interesting to see a little of the burning between trees as Cheryl suggested. Again, excellent image, very well done! |

Hi Emily - this is a very good image showing the NYC skyline. I like the color structure and the also the cloud structure, which to me leads me to the skyline in the background. In my personal opinion, I like objects in the foreground when using a wide angle lens. However I generally like to keep these foreground objects as something natural such as flowers, trees, brush, etc. (again, my opinion only). As such I agree with the others in cropping out the fence line in the foreground. Nice work, this is an excellent image! |
