How about this? A more subtle lightening, a slight shift in the color and a bit of desaturation, all designed to make the background recede slightly. |

To my mind, adding a border and it's the effectiveness depends upon the image and the reason for the border. If, in adding a border, the image appears more self-contained and the vison is more effectively presented, it has a place. If in adding a border, it is not helped, then perhaps it's a bit supercilious. It depends upon the image and the reason for adding it or not. This does fly in the face of absolutes, which again, to my mind has little place in the art of photography. |

I agree with Pierre's comments in regard to the darker purple parts of these blooms. The lighter areas are so prominent, that the darker areas appear almost as an afterthought. It might not be possible to bring these areas out more, so you might consider lightening the background or slightly adjusting the color/ hue to obtain more separation. |

Great capture with a lot of detail, although here the sharpness is not uniform across the entire fly, especially the eyes where our eyes always seem to search out. I do feel that the background is a bit busy, noisy and bright, which detracts from the fly presentation some. |

Great simple image of this bloom. I agree with the earlier comment regarding the effectiveness of this presentation. On a processing note, you might consider trying the Photoshop remove tool rather than the spot healing tool. In my experience, it does an even better job consistently. |

This is a very effective image of the butterfly. The insect is clearly shown against an softer background. In order to make this subject stand out even more, I would consider darken the background just a bit. I was able to easily remove the blade of grass you noted in 5 seconds using the Photoshop Remove tool (here I am not talking about the Lightroom remove tool which is different. I was quite surprised how well it did this job, See the attached version demonstrating these two ideas. |

Thanks for your comments. In this series of images I did spend a lot of time thinking about subtitle set-up and edits to further a simple story. Often I see still life scenes that are overly complex which detracts for a clean simple look. That may just be me though.
In terms of a pin stripe boarder, I guess I could of added on, but when I was editing the image, I was not thinking about its presentation in this format. I do not disagree though that it might have a place here in this specific presentation.
Thanks ! |
