Sunflowers make wonderful macro images since they contain so much interesting (to my mind) detail, and this image is no exception. The main bloom is nicely represented being both sharp and colorful, and I like that there is just a hint of mystery as to what else might be contained in the head of the bloom. When I captured these types of images I strive to capture more of the inherent detail and structure, especially in the leaves and in the stem, In this image these element of rather soft and I miss seeing the detail within them. I do appreciate the artistic rendering of this image in placing the larger bloom in the background, but to my mind in this presentation, this is more of a distraction than a benefit. I feel like the main bloom is competing with the background for dominance, and that adds tension and distracts me from the main bloom in the foreground. I am wondering if you were to blur and darken the background elements more if this distraction might be reduced without sacrificing your artistic intent. All-in-all though, a fun and interesting image. |

I echo the expressed thoughts on how effectively you have engage the viewer in this image. The texture and detail associated with the critter is wonderful. The background is also well chosen (as you collected the shot or in post processing) and is frames the subject nicely. If this were my image I might be tempted to add back a bit more space at the top to move the fine details of the hairs down a bit more form the top of the image. Nice shop with a timely subject. |

There is a lot of things to like in this image. The detail and color of the bloom is great and all the work you did with the multiple of images / layers has all paid off handsomely. In this case the final image does not necessarily betray all of the effort that went into it's creation, which is both a good and a bad thing. Good in that it looks natural, and bad in that your efforts may not be full appreciated. The image does have a bit of "mounted presentation or monograph" look and feel. I feel as though I am looking at a text book and here is an clean example of this species. Perhaps that is what you were going for here, or perhaps in developing the flower image you got fixated on the bloom itself and less upon the bloom in it surrounding. That happens to me from time to time. This might be addressed by adding a texture or subtle pattern to the background, of placing more blurred and subtle flowers in the background. Lots of ways to address this point. Great image. I look forward to see more of these efforts. |

This is a wonderful image of this little critter. The detail is outstanding and seeing the bits of pollen scattered across the body add to the realism. I also find that the composition is effective. I especially like how the critter is positioned on the flower stem, and how the stem moves through the images. Since the detail revealed in this image is so important, I might have tried to bring a bit more of the detail in the dark shadowed areas, especially under the wings on the body. Aside from that this is a great capture. |
