I agree with both of you regarding the need to sharpen the image. As presented it has a nice ethereal feel to it. Adding a bit of sharpen aids the viewer in focusing on interesting areas but detracts from the ethereal feel. I can understand the quandary you experienced in deciding how to proceed.
Personally I prefer Peter's version, but the image has a lot going for it as presented, and in the end it's your opinion that matters here. |

Nice portrait image of the birds head. The exposure is fine and the image is as sharp as it needs to be. Here you handled the mottled light well. The only comment I have here is that to my eye, it's cropped in a bit too much. Giving the bird's head a bit more space might enhance the portrait.

Salt crystals normally form the cube type of structures. Here though the edges have rounded off from most of these grains due to the gains rubbing against each other in the processing of the salt |
