Aren't the water drop collisions fun! This a prime example of macro photography, but requires a fair amount of specialized equipment to get it just right, so I have not entered some of my drop-collision shots. It is hard for others to try it out. Glad you had the chance to give it a try.
I really like how you took the original image and pushed it to something special by adding the color. The one point I could make is that in this case a crop to center the actions might work better. I know that this is against some of the "rules", but in this case it can be effective. As it is now the ripples are so close to the left edge that we loose some of the feel of the image (the drop and ripples in a smooth clam setting). I see in the original shot you had room to do this. Try is and see if it feels "better" (what ever that means) to you.

How did you get this little critter to pose in such a wonderful fashion. I also like the colors and composition within this image as well. The one thing I think is lacking is more detail and clarity in the head / eye region. This area is almost in focus, and this leaves me wishing for a bit more. The bright blown-out areas on the head also represents a large distraction, deflecting our eye for the eyes and mouth parts. Getting a larger portion of these active guys in focus is a real challenge. |

Great image in both concept and execution. Adding a base to the subject really sets this image apart.
Since the salt on the nut is so prevalent in this macro image, I would suggest that you add some micro-contrast to the light colored salt to bring it out a bit. This also would add a bit more balance to the image. In that I mean that there is so much contrast in the base (which is a good thing here) but less so in the nut which happens to be the main subject.
Give this a try and see what you think.
