Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
7 Feb 23 Comment By Tom's elevating the brightness level of the subject cone and sharpening your image, Paul, the viewer's eyes are immediately drawn to your subject, as it appears to be jumping off the paper. This is a Wow moment. I also favor Tony's suggestion to increase the depth-of-field to include the leaf. Feb 19th
7 Feb 23 Comment Your editing has done wonders for your image Gaetan. Now detail is plentiful except being limited in the background. There is obviously a great beautiful view here. However, ask yourself what if? Did you capture the best possible lighting? During Golden Light, Blue Light or dramatic storm. Are there elements in your image that can cause viewers to respond, Wow. I do not mean to say all images must have the impact suggested above. But these could help. By the composition, lighting depth-of-field or areas intentionally out of focus, does you image draw viewers to navigate throughout your whole image? I believe your photo meets this last point.

PSA used to offer a judging course over the course of a few weeks. I do not know if that is still available. However, here are the judging criteria below:

IMPACT
TECHNICAL EXCELLANCE:
FOCUS AND OTHER TECHNICAL ELEMENTS SHOULD APPEAR IN EVERY IMAGES.
EXPOSURE
DEPTH OF FIELD

PROPER REMOVAL OR NOT OF BACKGROUND
PROPER USE OF OR NOT OF VIGNETTING
CREATIVITY

TECHNIQUE - APPROACH USE TO CREATE THE IMAGE
THE STORY

Another popular source for judging criteria can be found with the Professional Photographers Association, and their article: https://www.ppa.com/events/photo-competitions/the-12-elements-of-a-merit-image.

Good luck and enjoy your journey Gaetan

7 Feb 23 Comment Excellent technical Hoshedar, I agree with all the above comments. One consideration to keep in mind when you are considering shutter speeds above 1/1000 sec, you might be able to decrease the speed and lower your ISO to 50 - 100. That can be helpful when you are thinking of large size prints. Feb 18th
7 Feb 23 Comment A perspective not usually seen in floral macro photography. Tony, the tact sharp focus of the front three pistols really separates from the petals due to the limited depth-of-field. The lighting is narrowed to pronounce the impact.

7 Feb 23 Comment Tom, I like your overall holiday scene after dark. The contrast between the holiday and streetlights and the deep dark sky is pulls one's vision into the image. At 1/80 sec handheld is tack sharp. This is a lovely scene. Feb 16th
7 Feb 23 Comment I do agree with you edit Tony, it just makes sense. Thanks Feb 16th
7 Feb 23 Reply Thank you Tom. Feb 13th
7 Feb 23 Reply Good question Gaetan. I suspect that move would have narrowed the wall to the left, may have distorted the window frame a bit more and may have slightly affected the appearance of the sunlight passing through the window.

What change do you see?
