Thank you Hoshedar for your more than kind words. About including a portion of the blue sky, I did give consideration. One of my personal guides, is to leave out whatever could pull the viewer's eye away from the main subject. Not a matter of a right way, just a personal preference. |

Perhaps a bit subtle, also toned down was the sunlite side of the bridge, the road leading to the bridge, the railing leading to the bridge, the brighter shruberry in the right side and also the sky. |

Gaetan, this is a well composed image with symmetry provided by the double row of pine trees. I agree with Barbara and Tom, crop in from the sides leaving some blue, lessen the saturation of the sky, and definitely lighten your friend. For guidance, consider what is your subject. Is it the sky, with attention drawn to it as is, or is it the row of pine trees complimenting your friend? |

A rather unusual site to come across Hoshedar. To increase separation of subject and background, I use a couple of selection tools in Photoshop, Select Subject or Quick Selection Tool. Be patient to create a correct selection. Then up top click on Select and choose Inverse. Check again for accuracy. Back to the top and click on Layer, then New Adjustment Layer. One can easily use any of the first five listed criteria to adjust the level of separation to taste. If you are entering a salon print then you likely limited to using Brightness, Contrast or Exposure. Most situations you will not need to be so restricted.
In attached image I applied adjustments to Brightness.

The array of lighting dimensions captured by your image is wonderful - shadows some serving as leading lines, light rays. Replacing a retreating couple with another copy front view was a great idea. Do you have Topaz Giga Pixel? |

I enjoy viewing covered bridge photos as they personify americana. This image is no exception. Strong lighting, but toned back, composed ideally and natural setting is pleasing. I played around with your image to attempt to further balance the lighting. Eight selective adjustments were made to the brightness levels. |
