With your image I could see myself relaxing on a warm summer afternoon in one of the two Adirondack chairs in the shade. Paul, the uneven lighting is a problem and retaking as suggested under more uniform lighting conditions from cloudy skies would have fixed this condition. Maintaining the original perspective, Barbara's processing suggestions will work, or Tom's approach of simplifying the surroundings provides a creative powerful rendition.

Grace I like that you have captured the Koala looking down upon you. When faced with backlighting it can be a challenge to capture enough detail in the front side of one's subject and sufficient contrast. Also the focus could be sharper. I do favor the color balance in the original image and would crop off some from the right as Barbara suggested. Also one can disregard strictly sticking to normal aspect ratios when ignoring them assists the composition. |

The way you have composed our image makes me wish I were there Les. The strong colors are helpful, the softness of the waterfalls and the roaring rapids in the foreground. I would prefer to have not included the rapids as, in my opinion, it detracts from your main subject. This would have given the option of including more above the falls.

I note this image was taken in 2011. Your regular submissions currently are normally well exposed, in focus and finely composed. You have certainly come a long ways. I suspect this was one of your earlier digital captures and you were still to learn the boundaries of over processing. |

Barbara, I really like the added touch the fog gives and how you captured it. Your composition is right on, gotta love the red jacket your husband is wearing. You have caught the reflection of your husband and the trees in the middle pond very well. And above all, a nice story told. I do favor the cropping Tom provided as it closes in on your story.

Tom, I like the warmth of the stone wall, wooden shelf, window draperies and comfortable cabin atmosphere. Nice image. I prefer the original distance to the window. Also, I wonder if you could have eliminated the table items. |
