What a creative composite and so full of interesting things to enjoy!
These kinds of projects where we challenge ourselves to get all the elements to look like their in the same lighting is so much fun! I haven't mastered it yet and am still trying.
Do you have a photographer who you admire in this genre?
Lately, I've been enjoying Alexandriaslens on Instagram. |

Happy New Year Brad!
I like your idea but thinks this needs a lot more work in terms of lighting matching, and blending.
The original hummingbird photo actually looks like the bird is placed there because the chest area is angular. Nice capture of the bird!

Gerhard, I'm so sorry that my comments came across strongly negative. That was not my intention.
I was asking questions to better understand your approach. As I said, I really like your original photo and am trying to inderstand why you make the choices you make.

Welcome Lisette!!
I really like your painting! Especially the texture you added to create wave action.
I also like the sharp and soft approach as well as the contemporary feel you intended!
I see what Elinor means about some sharp detail sticking through but my thought is that the rock area looks like you had a water spill on the paper. For my taste, I'd like to see more rock definition (definitely blurred) but not crisp. The high contrast area (sand and rocks) draws my eye and I think you'd rather we focus on the people and water?

Great original photo!
I'm not sure about the pointillist style for this photo. So here are some thoughts for you.
In my mind, a painting technique should enhance the photo or convey a feeling/mood to send a message.
It seems like you played with filters and ended up with this effect. Do you have a feeling about your photo before you start the filter/painting process?

Beautiful painting of the heron! I just showed this to my husband to illustrate the possibilities with a bird that isn't facing the camera.
I love your color choices and the big bokkoh.
I'm actually torn about the branches. Yes, you could remove it but I like texture so as a trial, lighten them so they are wispy and match the colors in your main pallet. Either way, a winner! |

Fun concept! There's so much you can do with this!
I agree with Cyril about the "bubble texture" feeling out of place.
Maybe add some fog brush instead to hive around the trees? |

Great subject and photo!
I agree about the distracting shadow and know you can easily edit that out.
I do agree that it's a "realistic" painting and wonder if you might keep the cowboy/horse the way you painted but make the red rock more painterly. It might add to the impact of the beautiful colors. |
