Technically, this photo is really great. I love the crispness of the snow and the bones of the trees.
Love those phones! They are better than my old point and shoot. |

I agree with Paul.
The color is very striking, especially the flames at the rear tire which I missed totally until I looked at the color version.
Also, since everything in the mono is grey-toned, the grass seems to blend into the car. I like the difference in color between the grass and the car in the color version. |

Mono is so great because I really wanted to focus on the skater, the stretch of his back, the effort in his face. I wasn't distracted by the colors fighting for attention.
Nice shot! |

Super portrait of this couple. I like the mono better than the color because there is no distraction from their faces.
My eye goes right to where you want me to look.
In the color photo, my eye wanted to check out the posters behind them, the red beard, the dirt on their clothes... In converting to mono, you brought my focus right to their expressions... which is a good thing. |

Based on your stated goal, I agree that you have achieved it.
I do agree with Matt about the lack of impact. I tried to play with the scene and take out some of the distracting elements and take down the bright sky.
Probably not what you were looking to achieve but maybe a bit more focused. |

Late to the party Wes!
But love this and the concept! What a great idea for "stuck in the house" winter play.
No critique because it's really neat and fun! |

Wes, thanks for your concern. Yes, Gray Lodge is near Gridley, one of the towns in danger of flooding from the over full Oroville Dam.
Fortunately, I live in the Sierra Foothills in Nevada City, about an hour away and at 2500 ft elevation.
The rain has been relentless and has caused all kinds of damage with sinkholes and raging creeks and rivers. So far, we have been fine.
I will probably stay away from the impacted areas but am sure there will be plenty of photographers. There's a PSA club in Yuba City (one of the impacted cities). |

This is a wonderful picture and so different than what you usually post. I love the perspective and the color.
Did you get some photos of his face? It looks like there is so much character in his face that I would like to see more of it.

Really like this shot! Crisp and interesting details.
I'll bet there are a lot of interesting abandoned buildings in the Detroit area.
There is a photographer in Sacramento, Ca. who does the same thing. Fascinating night shot pictures.

I really like this photo of NYC.
Love the colors, the lights, the activity and especially the boca from the sign on the left.
I imagine you could say that the Boca is distracting but I think it really helps my eye bounce back to the cart and keeps my eye in the picture. |

Great shot! Nice focus on the skier.
Since it's Photojournalism, you can't get rid of that blue pole but I'd sure like it to disappear. |

Pat,
You've clearly done a ton of work on this very patriotic themed picture!
It's well composed and I like the bright colors.
My concern is that the eagle looks a bit "cut and paste" onto the flag. Since you've used highly stylistic filters on the composites, you're clearly not looking for the "natural" look.
Perhaps toning down the brightness of the eagles head would make it blend more. |

This truly looks like an acrylic painting on canvas.
I agree that the original is too bright and am glad that you are taking Nancy's advice. |
