70 Jan 17 Comment I agree the position of the moon with the tree tops and the colors in the sky make this image. I also understand your quandary about what to include in the image, where to set up, etc. The place, time and circumstances often dictate our composition. With rapidly changing light and people that will not move out of the way quick enough I think you did well to capture what you did. Jan 15th
70 Jan 17 Reply Judy it is the surge from the waves breaking along the cliff. Not the usual smooth pool we expect to see when viewing a waterfall. Jan 11th
70 Jan 17 Comment Nice, and no I don't think you have pushed it to far. This is one I could enlarge and hang on my wall.
My visit to Clingman's Dome in 2002 was also in October but mid day, windy, overcast and cold.

70 Jan 17 Reply Lamar, I chose the name to make the point that what you see in a image may not be the whole picture.
I do think the processing was worthwhile. Once past the initial learning curve the time it takes to process an image isn't long. I use LRcc, Photoshopcc and ON1Photo Raw. LR and ON1PR are my primary programs and Photoshop is used to fill in any holes in those two.
The ability to use layers, masking and multiple programs to process an image opens up the creative process to new levels. Since these programs are generally non-destructive you can always hit reset and start again, or go back to any step and redo it, and will always have the original image.
I think the Sony Smooth Reflection app has a place in my workflow but using a ND filter gives greater latitude in creating the image.I will use both in the future, depending on the situation.
I agree with your comment about boosting the water tone, thank you. Tom

70 Jan 17 Comment Some day I will make it to the Palouse. I love the contours, the line between the green and browns of the adjacent field, along with the angles of the hills, lead the eye into image and to the tree. I do think it is a little over saturated, for me, but not to the point of excess. I tried to re-crop the image to bring the tree more to the right, and crop out some of the area at the top. Couldn't do it without losing to much of the right side of the image. Positioning the camera to put the tree at the top left intersection of the rule of thirds grid would have added to the balance of the image. Jan 7th
70 Jan 17 Comment Mission accomplished, now I have to get another cup of coffee and warm up. I live in California for several reasons and weather like this is one of them. My only thought regards cropping. For me there is excess space above and left of the structure and the lamp post and building on the right side grab my focus. Here is what I came up with.

70 Jan 17 Comment Very nice. Good example that not every image has to follow the rule of thirds. Great color, contrast, composition. Were you out on the west coast for long? Would have enjoyed a cup of coffee with you. Our house at the coast is 30 minutes from Morgan Hill. Jan 7th
