Hi Neal,
This is a very nice image of an ant. Pretty sharp throughout, in part as your camera lens was parallel to the ant's body.
My only suggestion would be to decrease the harsh shadows. |

Hi Neal,
I did not choose the background..... This is a petal of the flower itself. The Anther was photographed without removing the anther from the flower. |

Hi Xiao,
Great image and post-processing treatment. Darkening the background really brings the focus on the subject.
I like the edits, both from Charles and yours.
I am looking forward to see more images. |

Hi Murphy, This is a very nice subject for a B/W conversion-simply lovely. I also like the darkening touch provided by Charles, which decreases the distraction caused by the slightly out-of-focus areas.
Beautiful. Well done.

Hi Charles,
Nice micro-dissection!
Interesting subject but maybe a little dark. Nice details and texture.
I like the Peeled version better as the peel was a little too reflective.
Nice idea. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Barbara,
Very nice capture. Can you specify which lens you used? Except for the leaves in the background, and the left petal a little soft, everything is tack sharp using only 3 slices at f/10. Was it a slightly wide angle lens?
Great composition and color palette. The angle of the flower adds to the appeal.
Great image. |

Hi and Welcome Xiao.
Your point is well taken. I used constant lighting and was aiming to reduce the shadow inside the anther folds. Unfortunately, the stem was more reflective that the other components.
I will darken a bit the stem to make it less distracting. |

Hi Jacob,
This is a very nice capture.
I agree with the above comments. When I analised the image, I realized that you had several area of the body and head of this bird that were completely "black", preventing to see any details in these areas. I worked on it a little, decreasing the "black" and the shadows, an re-cropped slightly, so the bird is "looking" in the frame. |

Hi Jaswant. I agree with you. The reason for this is that the background was pretty far away from the perch. |

I also tried a larger cropping (a bit more conventional cropping) with this result.
On difficult subjects, such as this one, I like to make several copies of the original and try different crops. I then try to find which one I like best - not always easy. |

Hi Diane, Nice capture of this big lizard.
Although this is a very tall image, I would have preferred the tail not to be truncated. It is a difficult situation to deal with when the subject and the tree are very similar in color and the light behind the subject is so bright.
I took the liberty of working on your original image (decreasing highlights, whites, shadows, and mid-tones). Here is my result with a similar cropping:

Nice fast action image. Although I normally prefer the separation of subjects, your composition increases the sense of movement.

Hi Dean,
Thanks for these comments. Yes, I should have shot at f/2.8 instead of 4.5. This bush was fairly far away and did not expect to be so "present".
Oh well, maybe next time! |

Hi Kirk,
Thanks for your comments. Every year in December an Ice Boom is deployed across the Eastern end of Lake Erie. This is the shallowest great lake and its surface normally freezes in the winter. This ice floats would cause very significant damage to several bridges across the upper Niagara River (Peace Bridge, International Bridge (railway), Rainbow Bridge and the Whirlpool bridge), and then could reach Niagara Falls where more damage would occur. This boom extend from Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada to approximately the Small Boat Harbor located in South Buffalo.
This boom is then removed in the spring when there is no more ice on the lake.
As mentioned, I took this image when it was snowing. In these conditions, one needs to use manual focus as the autofocus function is affected by the snow flakes.
This was the way it was...
Following your suggestions, I did another cropping with more emphasis on the boom (Multiple long floating boys linked by chains and anchors). In some area, there would be multiple rows of these. |

Hi Kirk,
Lucky You! It is almost impossible to get an opportunity to capture an image of the Great Wall without troves of tourists obstructing a view of the walkway!
Lovely composition with the wall zig-zagging through the rugged mountain range. The few tourists are very helpful in grasping the perspectives, and adding some accent colors.
No suggestion to offer on this great image.
Another keeper.

Hi Frans,
Another great demonstration of the power of editing.
I realized that you removed some of the observers on the right side of the frame (by cropping and erasing), but kept the one in the middle and one on the right side.
I loved the one right in front of you (perspective), but not the one on the right.
I took the liberty of "tweaking" your image by slightly increasing the saturation, and decreasing the highlights + shadows. All minor suggestions. |

Hi Kathryn,
Lovely capture from the past. Nice lines, depth, tones, etc... I would have liked a bit more separation between the carriage and its background, but this is a very minor point.
I have not been to Mescal but visited Tombstone, AZ, where there is another TV movie set - just in case you are around that area. |

Hi Geoff, This is a great capture using an iPhone.
Great colors, contrasts, actors, and overall context with a non-competing audience.
Great souvenir to add to your collection.

Hi Tami,
Beautiful image. I love the orange hour and the contrast with the green grass, foliage color changes, the animals, and, as an added prize, the castle!
The only thing that I wished is to have more room on the left side of the castle.
I did a trial using Generative AI to extend the crop on the left side. I also reduced the darkening on the right upper corner. I am not sure if the Generative AI (ON1 Photo Raw 2025), is compatible with the "real" scene or not! |

Hi Geoff,
These workers were starting the installation of the Boom on the Fort Erie side of Lake Erie.
I tried to convey the coldness and the snow falling.
I have a much crispier image from earlier that morning (before the snow...) - see attached. |
