Thank you all for these constructive comments. I decided to use 3 ND Graduated filters to "tweak" this image. Please see the new version. I used ND graduated filters as I felt that a simple vignette would have obscured the head and/or the tail of the animal. Much quicker to do, in my opinion, than dodging.... |

Hi Diane,
This is a chilled kangaroo!
I like that you were at eye level with this "dude". I agree with Dean that the lighting by its ears is very bright and competes with the subject.
Your light readjustment is much more suiting.
Personally, I would like more room around the animal especially on the top and the right side of the frame. Ideally, one would like no contact between the top of the ear and the frame. There should be more room towards where the kangaroo is looking.
One option is to do a tight crop, not ideal but can sometimes work!

Wow... Impressive image. Nice eye contact with the Wild dog and the unfortunate Steenbok. This image certainly tells a story of life in the wild.
A keeper for sure. |

Nicely done Jacob.
The new framing, and blurring the background, are helping to focus our attention on your main subject.
Great work. |

Hi Cindy,
Very nice image. Nice expression and framing. I agree with Dean re darkness. I took the liberty of playing with the light adjustments. |

Hi Dean,
Lovely composition and nice color contrast with the yellow flower in the middle and the mild vignette.
I do not have any suggestions for improving this submission.

Nicely done. This Hawk is tack-sharp and the background is not competing (as opposed to the original image). I do not mind seeing the back of the bird as its head is turned towards your camera.
Another keeper! |

Hi Stefaan,
Dreamy capture of the wineries during the off-season by using a long exposure, and, I am assuming, a sturdy tripod.
Would you be able to post your settings? (f stop, ISO, exposure time, etc....).
Very nice. |

Hi Kathryn,
Very nice submission. Very strong directing lines providing a huge dept of field. Nice control of highlights and shadows blending 3 different exposures. Nice focus point on the center draw bridge. Almost perfect water reflection of the sky (including the clouds on the top left). Vivid colors.
Another keeper! |

Hi Kirk,
Considering your predicaments with a moving boat, your end result is excellent.
You mentioned that you cropped your original. I would have liked to have more room on the left and top of the image. As for the right side, I am assuming that the rock was not completely included on the original capture.
I believe that more details could be gained by reducing the "shadows" and "midtones". Here is a different cropping and light adjustments - just a suggestion.

Hi Frans,
I agree with Geoff. Great image - Nice composition, framing, expression, colours, lightning, story. It makes me wonder what was behind this partly open door.
Nicely done. The addition of the boy made this image publication ready!
Nice work. |
