Very lovely image. My only suggestion would be to lighten the background a tad.
I would love to get these animals in my backyard! |

Nice work. I like what you did with the distracting background as well as providing a more painterly Blue Heron.
Nice creative tweaks...

Hi Candy,
Very nice capture and touch-up.
I learn so much from you with each of your submissions and your description of how you work with the "initial flaws".
Thank you. |

Hi Brenda,
The combination of light and sensor stabilization is fantastic allowing much lower speed (minimizing the noise generated by high ISO). (Unfortunately, I found cropped sensors (micro 4/3) noisy at high ISO...) |

You are very creative Dean - this is something that I need to work on!
Very difficult subject but good creative work. I like the suggestions brought forward by Brenda.
This is a fun group to learn different techniques.
Keep on the good work. |

Hi Mervyn,
Very nice capture. Nice silky water and lines.
One of the issues using long exposure to get the silky water is that the wind could move the leaves in the surrounding bushes.
One of the suggestions to remedy this problem (suggested to me in a different group) is to take 2 images: one with long exposure and a second one with a short exposure. The 2 images can be moved to PhotoShop keeping the smooth water from one image and the non-moving leaves from the second image. |

Hi Mary, it is always frustrating when one is proud of an image but is receiving a thumb down in a competition!
I worked on your final image. I think that your main problem is that there is no good anchor on the bottom. I decided to crop just below the third row of hills, pushing a new directing line from the bottom left to the top right. Slight increase in contrast. Just an idea. I would like to see what the other members of this group would suggest.

Hi Kathryn,
Nice image. At your request, I worked on your image using LightRoom. I used a gradient filter from top to bottom decreasing the highlights and white and increasing the saturation on the upper portion of the image just starting just above the tree line. I then increased the image contrast and decrease the shadows in the trees. I probably was too liberal on the saturation. Please let me know.

Hi Frans,
I remember a picture Flam that you took during a tour, in a bus) - your submission of Oct 2019!
On your initial image, the air humidity and the bright overcast sky were responsible for the glair and poor contrast of the upper and upper left portion of your image. On the other hand, your cropping decreased the nice mirror image from the bright hills on the fjord.
Your crop helped to focus on your main area of interest.
I decided to work on your initial photography and see if I can improve the initial image. I used 2 angled progressive filters decreasing the hightights, whites, haze and increasing the saturation on the left top corner. I then use on oval gradient and reduced the highlights on the left bright corner of the lit area. I then increased the contrast and saturation over the whole image.
I think that your version is better than mine.. |

Beautiful. You nailed it! I am assuming that you added some light from behind the arch (or was it a car passing by...). Very nice directing lines - nicely demonstrated anchoring point but still maintaining nice exposure for the milky way. |

First, I would like to thank you for hosting PSA 70 Digital over the last few years. I learned a lot through your guidance.
Very serene idyllic scenery. Nice mirror image - simple and sharp. Nicely done.
I am always amazed that the same photographic location could offer so many variations depending on the day, hour, sun location, etc.... As you know, I love morning twilights and early sunrises. Well... Up to now, every experiences from the exact same location were different! |
