Hi Geoff. I can wait to visit your island. This is just beautiful - thanks for the explanation.
I like your crop and the diagonal dry river bed.
Your image is playing tricks on my vision! Was that picture taken through the window of the helicopter or with the window down? Another possible explanation of my perception would be oversharpening or slight camera shake (vibration from the helicopter with that shutter speed?).

Hi Brenda. Lovely shot. Nice pause - perfect cropping for me with nice lines. Part of your problem was the time of the day (probably noonish) with a clear sky which leads to harsh shadows.
I would suggest, if possible, decreasing the highlights and white and at the same time, opening the shadows (and/or decreasing the black). This would soften the harsh shadows.
Lovely. I would have no problem proposing this image for a nature contest. |

I find flowers, especially white, a very difficult subject. I agree with the comments above.
If possible, I would probably crop, focussing on the main flower that is a little offset to the right side of the center.
Can you take pict in RAW with your iPhone? If so, you would get far more control on highlights and shadows. Unfortunately, once a pixel is "burned" you can't bring back any details. |

Very nicely done Candy. A bird under a stick is far more interesting than a bird on a stick! The bird is nice and sharp. Nice demonstration of the skills at making a nest. This image is telling a story.
Nice work on the background.
Simply lovely! |

The Canada Geese are very protective of their offsprings, especially when they are so little. These parents will attack anyone that comes too close! It took a while to get a clear shot (from far away) and with a nice sunray on the chick.
Thanks for your comments. |

Hi Geoff,
Well... this was a very protective parent! This chick was very young and I would not be surprised if this was one of its first swim (there was no chicks the week before). It took a while to have this one isolated from its siblings but not from the parent! |

Thanks Brenda,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I still have my house and car but.... I sold 2 cameras in exchange. The R5 is a great camera. The eye/animal detection is very good and follows the birds in flight very nicely. The 800mm f11 lens is very night and affordable considering the price of the L series of that reach. With the 1.4X all pictures are at f/16!....so.... need good light.
A friend of mine got the R6: better in low light but 20 mp instead of 45. I normally use my EF lenses with the adaptor - works like a charm. |

Hi Dean,
Very "apocalyptic" image. wonderful palette. I think that I would prefer the horizon to be smack-centered as the bottom of your image does not bring much to the composition. I do not have any problem that the sun is in the middle as the cloud composition with the thicker cloud band on the right in joining the more straight cloud line at that level.
I would probably dabble a little bit with a graduated filter with slight darkening and a slight increase in saturation just above the horizon.
Nicely done. Very serene/energizing. I love it. |

Lovely image. The image reflection is just wonderful. Fantastic breeding colors on this great egret. Very nice display of the feathers - almost like a dentelle. Maybe adding a little more light on the poor victim would help?

Very scenic Half Dome at the Yosemite National Park. Nothing you can do with that tall tree - does not bothter me.
I agree with the previous comments. Enjoy your trip!

Hi San,
It almost looks like you were on a different planet!
Very dramatic indeed.
My only suggestion would be to slightly increase the saturation on the foreground and slightly darkened from the horizon line and up.
Wonderful capture. Hope that you did not cut yourself on these lava rocks! |

Hi Lamar,
Hi totally agree with you. The clouds were dense and I was concerned that I would get rained on!
Would it be fair cheating to bring a cone of light on a portion of the image? |

Agree. My main problem is to avoid specific epitaph or name and dates due to privacy concerns. I would sometimes "blur" this portion of tombstones and family mausoleums. Some cemeteries are beautiful - and peaceful. |

Lovely image. My only suggestion would be to tone down the brightness of the central square tower (if possible). I feel that it stand out too much and distract from looking at the very nice details all around. I love all the reflections. Did you consider bracketing your shot?

Hi Judy,
I love it. Perfect timing for the evening orange light reflecting on the clouds. Good directing lines. My only suggestion would be to increase the contrast, and increase the sky saturation a little.
Wonderful peaceful scene. |

Hi Judy,
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Believe it or not, this was captured just a few weeks ago - Spring with the Cherry Blossom. I was also surprised by the colors of the taller trees that were more autumnal in colorations.....This is a spot (Forest Lawn Cemetery - Buffalo) where we get a significant migration of warblers.... unfortunately they did not keep their appointment! |

The effect that you were looking for is well demonstrated here. Nice capture with an iPhone. This flower is pretty small if you were only at 2 to 3 in off the ground. Very sharp focus on the "front row" flowers but this focus fades away quickly. How big was that patch?
Nice work. |
