Hi Geoffrey.
Really nice. Back lit and no background interference. I am not sure that your "original" and final product came from the same capture as your angle of view is different. I would also tone down a bit the background.
In respect to focus stacking tricks:
1) very early in the morning captures are are easier as your butterfly is still sleepy (cold)(applicable to all insects)
2) some camera will perform focus stacking very rapidly - can allow one to use that technique without a tripod (still tricky and require a lot of practice).
Nice work. Looking forward to see more like this one! |

Very impressive action shot. At the same time, this is very artistic. Very shark and lots of textures.
Bisecting the image at the reflection point adds to the image.
I would have been nice to have more room in front of this blue heron but I realized that you kept all you could as I looked at your original. |

Nice work Jacob. All in focus. Nice colors and composition. I would have like a little more space on top (as the butterfly is apparently looking in that direction....)
One of the problem with close-up and macrophotography is that imperfections become much more apparent. The left wing of your butterfly is quite severely damaged.... this is very unfortunate. Picking the perfect butterfly or flower can be a real challenge! |

Very nice. Strong details of the tree and sand waves texture as well as directing lines from this dead tree. It looks like there is a backpack on the bottom left corner of that tree - Once I saw it, I became quite distracted by its presence! I would suggest removing it (if possible). |

It is funny how sometimes boring vegetation can become attractive! |

Very nice and somewhat creepy! Your black and white rendition makes me look for hidden creatures and wild beasts...
I love the mirror reflection of the sky and trees. I found this conversion more powerful than the original as it brings up the textures. The original was somewhat blah and had limited colors anyway.
Lovely work! |

Very nice and engaging image with a view of the forest and undergrowth. I like it as it is but one could argue that cropping a bit bilaterally would produce more of a guiding line through the woods.

Hi Todd, Thanks for the info.
In general, I personally prefer when I can see some sky above hills or cliffs. In this case, the effect that you were looking for is somewhat lost in this "sky line included" version. The nice texture seen on your initially submitted version is lost in this one. So much to learn!

I like this image much better than the one of last month. This is almost a 3D image! Very nice depth and all in focus. No wind artefact. I do not see the edge softness that was present last month. Nice mirror images of these grass fingers and cloudy sky. Very engaging image. I really love what you can achieve with a drone.

Nice and crisp. Incredible perspective capture. Nice lines formed by the ridges bringing a the focus dead center at the junction between the top and second fifth of your image.
Can you elaborate on how you take your vertical panos. On my side, I end up with some perspective distorsions. I find horizontal panos much easier to do.
I am curious to know what is present on top of these hills. Is it possible to see higher up? |

I love the log!
I love the perspective, textures, directing lines the "orange" light.
I found the sky too bright and the far canyon hazy.
Using the brush took I toned down the highlights and slightly dehazed the sky and far away canyon. I also removed a sensor dust in the mid portion of the sky. Unfortunately, not working with the original make these corrections difficult and added grain to the sky. |

A agree with Stephen in respect to the picture swapping...
You corrected the perspectives very nicely on your "original". With architectural image one could normally take all the time needed, use a tripod, and possibly a tilt-shift lens to achieve perfect symmetry and non distorted views....
Despite all the difficulties of shooting during the night, from a moving vehicle and surrounded by tourists, you did a fantastic job.
Congratulations are in order!
