The Gaspesie Peninsula is on the East South side of the Province of Quebec. The North edge is the South shore of the St-Laurence river. Isle Bonaventure is a small island off the Eastern tip of Gaspesie (just South East of a town called Percé. The full name of the island is Ile Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé National Park. |

Beautiful capture. In Quebec, these birds are called Fou de Bassan. There is an island on the Eastern tip of the Gaspesie peninsula (Isle Bonaventure) where these birds are nesting - amazing scene. Interesting to see that you have these same birds in your area!
Keep on the good work! |

Serene scene. Lovely and relaxing. Nice color palette. As for the cropping, I prefer seeing the image with the single hole tree on the left.
Wonderful capture. |

Hi Jacob,
Nice shot. Unfortunately, the background is very busy.
It would be great to see which equipment and setup you used (focal length, speed, ASO, f stop, size of the sensor (probably a micro 4/3 in this case), etc...
Close up photography is not easy. Here the focus seems to be more on the background than the moth itself.
Trick: try to have the insect parallel to your lens - increasing the area in focus. Increasing the f stop would have helped to capture the whole insect in focus. Take multiple shots while moving gently your focus ring from behind to the front of the insect and select the best one after. Try selecting a less busy background. I liked the way you cropped it.
On the Lumix (which one?) you can trigger the magnification and add blue markers on the area in perfect focus by slightly moving the focus ring. (I use back button focussing to decouple the shutter from focussing - takes a little while to get use to it but works well.) You can also use Focus staking in Camera but this would require stabilization.
Keep on the good work.

Wow... I love the way you cleaned up the distracting background. This owl gaze is quite striking.
I love it! |

I moved right and left, up and down to clear the bird but unfortunately there was a lot of branches.... |

Nice shot Dean. Sharp head and slightly blurred wingtips at 1/2000sec add to the action.
Unfortunate that the right side of the head was in the shadow. I tried to improve this using an oval ND filter increasing the exposure and slightly decreasing the contrast on the head and upper body.

Nice action with its mirror image. Vivid red legs contrasting with the B/W body. I think that the head is slightly out of focus but this could be in part due to the limitations caused by a small file format of the posting.
Very nice. |

I did the correction in LightRoom. There is a perspective panel on the right side: Transform. When you look of the original vertical lines you will see that the vertical lines were perfect on the left but not the right. You can rotate the pict a little bit to have the same slope on both sides (inverted slope comparing the right and the left) and then readjust the vertical lines so they become perfectly parallel. Not difficult once you practice a little bit. |

Pretty nice dept of field for a full frame at that focal length. |

This bring back to the surface the whole concept of cropping and what one feel important to preserve and eliminate. I personally like the upper branches on the top with the clouds in the sky.
Removing the left part is helpful with the cleanup of the foreground.
Thanks for your perspective.

Really nice scenery - dreamlike.
I am wondering if you increased a little too much the "dehazing" or the contrast.
Just beautiful. |

Nice repetitive pattern and texturized blues.
It looks like you lined up the left side of your capture vertically but not on the right side. I straightened it up by gently tweaking the vertical and rotation controls.
Nice capture. |

I wish I took that shot. Really beautiful. Nice angle of view, perspective, cropping, colors and starburst effect. You even preserved the details of the little bushes.
Did you consider bracketing?
This is a keeper for sure!

Very nice colors, perspective, depth of field and guiding lines. I also like the dreamlike texture produced by the evaporation and your cropping.
Really nice.
p.s.: Sulfur does not smell very good! |

Nice use of the bracketing technique (-2, 0, +2?). Not overblown and nice details in the shadowed area. I like the darkening touch from Glen.
Pretty good dept-of-field for an f stop at 2.8 on a 63 mm lens. Do you have a cropped sensor?
Nice work.

Hi Glen,
Thanks for your nice comments. One could be also creative by decrease the saturation of all the colors except for the blue! |

Hi Lamar,
Very nice leading lines, colors and perspective. I tweeked a bit perspective with rotation and verticals. Not always easy...
