It is really rare to see Pelicans in my area (Buffalo, NY) These birds are all over the place in more southern area. |

Thanks Candy. I am pushing a bit the advantages of a micro 4/3 camera system with the dual stabilization (camera and lens) and the much smaller lens. I was used to carry a very sturdy tripod with a 600mm f/4 Canon lens. I agree with you. A tripod or other form of stabilization would have been nice. I find that I was able to crank up the ISO without being too grainy with my full frame camera. This is a bit of a draw back with these smaller sensors. |

Thank you.
This Pelican was pretty far away. This was captured with an equivalent full frame of 600 mm at 1/125 sec. I took full advantage of the 6.5 stop stabilization offered by the combo lens and camera. |

Thanks for these nice comments. I was quite surprised to see this bird in that location. Since then, other white pelicans were seen around Buffalo! |

Very nice and sharp capture. Great details. Nice bokeh.
On your capture, do you have a little bit more room on the left side? I believe that showing more on the left would direct the attention on where this bird if flying to (Looks like a white-faced heron) and enhance your image. In general, I do not like to frame my animals right in the middle. |

Wonderful capture. The reciprocal gaze between the parent and the baby is really nice. Really sharp on the subjects and nice bokeh.
This is really nice. Congrats! |

An other possibility: If your original capture had more on the lower portion, I would like to see the effect by bringing the mirror intersection more to the middle...
Either way, this is a lovely picture anyway you look at it.
Nicely done. |

I agree with Geoffrey. If your capture included more of the left side, I would open up the left side and crop the right side a bit. The taller flower on the right and smaller on the left (and their reflection) would act like an arrow pointing to the left (similar to following the gaze of an animal or person) (strong guiding lines). |

Pretty nice work with an iPhone! Nice fall colors, lines and crop.
You were wondering if the color enhancement was overdone: maybe a little. Difficult to adjust with a JPG original. I prefer to use a little bit of vibrance, saturation, contrast, and sometimes using color channels.
Nice work. I might remove the bird (a little blurry). |

Nice directing lines and story. I find the top edge a little tight - maybe could be improved by getting a little bit of the clouds (toned down!).
Funny looking creatures...
I tried to uncrop a bit on the top and then used the progressive filter to progressively tone down the top portion. Difficult to get what I wanted with this small original - is it possible that the sky was overexposed on the original? It could not keep a nice gradation on the contrasty sky. |

Stunning creation! I love the perfect mirror, the strong contrast in light intensity and in colors. I might have tried to make it a little tighter on the right side.
Wonderful! |

Nice photo. I agree with the above comments. My inclination would have been to dehaze a bit but this version is very nice.

Thanks of all these nice comments. I was lucky enough to be there when they launch the small black balloon to evaluate the direction and magnitude of the winds. I anticipated where this balloon would go and was ready for it! |

Hi Glen,
Excellent composition, the balance of the elements (horizon, palm tree, mountains on the top left, waves + sun), directing lines, colors and positioning of the camera to capture this scene.
I have only one criticism/comment: I believe that there was a bit of wind on that beach that morning. The leaves of the palm trees are fine (more rigid) but the trees on the left are showing a motion blur. I am not convinced that f18 was needed to get that depth of field with a 35 mm lens. This forced you to have a long exposure of 1/13 and produced this blur. A trial with a lower f stop and/or higher ISO could have help you to increase your shutter speed.
I have also encountered this problem multiple times with bracketing technique when the wind is strong - in that case scenario, I normally use the bracketed image with the best histogram.

Thank you for these nice comments.
I was quite pleased indeed, especially after driving for 1.5 hre and not being able to catch the sunrise. I was not expecting the hot air balloon to be launched that morning.
I have multiple captures as this hot air balloon was going down, and then up. I chose this one in particular due to the separation of the balloon and basket from the bridge and trees + the extra bonus of the flame!
(After taking this shot, I came across several photographers that were there on purpose to catch these balloons... to realize that they have just missed them!) |

Really nice colors, water reflection, shadow/light alternation and directing lines. Great Image. I really like it.
To crop or not to crop! Sometimes it is obvious. For example, a bird in flight with a wingtip cut off - I would crop on an interesting detail instead of showing that I missed the shot! For panorama, I frequently take large Panos and then do multiple versions with more sequences on the right or left, etc... Other times, I would focus on a particular area that I find more interesting/captivating.
It is an art - no obvious wrong or right!

Simply beautiful. Nice lines, light intensity and color gradation from the top left to the bottom right.
On my screen, the freighter appears a little blurred but it is probably due to the format restriction of 1 k.
I agree with you in respect to the cropping. From my point of view, it would depend on the room and space available on a wall where it would be displayed. This is a keeper! |
