Hi Geoffrey,
I think that I prefer the "marbles" colors on this last version. Great shot! |

Nice composition and colors. I have to agree with the others in respect to over-saturation and probably over sharpening, over clarity, over dehazing, etc...
Would be great to see the original and seeing what others would to with it (a bit like a game of duplicate bridge!).
Nice. |

Just beautiful. Personally, I would like either more foreground or no foreground branch (in this case). To have more of the plant, having a window between branches, etc.. would have been wonderful.
Nice color tones and mood. |

Really nice and crisp action shot. I found much easier to have a sharp image of the female that this male - the camera like a sharp contrast point to focus.

Really nice.
You did not mention what was your setting. I presume that you were close to the 300 mm range (600 mm equivalent full frame). This is a very sharp lens. Great shot. |

Thanks for all your comments - appreciated. I was not happy either with the intersect on the bird's chest.
I would like to find out if there is an easy way to remove this branch tip in post-production without affecting the delicate edge of the bird? |

Hi Dean,
Lovely scenery. Very moody. Yes, maybe the small snow patches could be distracting, but this was the way it goes. I do not believe that I would remove these.
I would be interested to see your color version as a discussion could be started on different ways to convert to a BW.
I tried to "play" a bit with it by increasing the haze, decreasing the contrast and brightness.... |

Really nice. I do not think that increasing your shutter speed would have help. With close up photography, the dept of field gets pretty thin, even at f/8.0 The head, body and twigg are all at a very similar distance from your lens. The wing tips are either before or after your focus zone. Increasing your f stop would have been helpful but then you need to increase your ISO or decreasing your shutters speed.
Due to wing movements, I really do not expect that focus stacking would be of any help.
Some camera will offer "in camera" focus stacking (Lumix G9) but then you need to be on a tripod and not having any movement.
Very early morning (cold) can really help.
I do not have any problem with your background and the out of focus of the wing tips.

Hi Frans, I really like the color version. Just a question of taste.
I decided to do some tweaking...
I selectively increased the dehaze and clarity on the mountain tips, then added some haze to the whole picture. I then selectively increased the saturation on the rusted area on the bottom of the cliffs.

Very nice. Of your 3 picts, I prefer the one with the green gate in the stone wall. Giving a bit more details to the mountain in the back would be nice.
I also like a bit more room around the house and cross.

I agree with all previous comments. This is a great image. Well done.
When I can, I like to see the whole trees, but these are so tall that it would be impossible. One option would be to back up and pan from top to bottom, ideally adding a hiker on the trail to show how tall these trees are. |

Very nice work. With so many options with the post-processing phase, I would like to try this tweaking...
I use a progressive filter from bottom to top and use some dehazing, decreased highlights, and other minor touchups.

Very nice. You certainly put a lot of thinking on how to obtain this end result. I am just wondering if this could have been done with focus stacking using individual setting on each layer (3?). |

I like this hybrid between B/W and color that enhance the 2 kayakers.
It would be great to the original "full colored" one. This area of the world is so pretty.
Very nice! |

Nice composition. Were you on a hill across the bay? Very bright colors... did you increased the saturation?
Wonderful location, but be careful not to travel after dark on the mainland, especially between Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula! |

Photography is an art that takes time to learn! I found these discussions very helpful. It starts by getting the best possible photography and thinking about the final product right from the get go. This is very technical. Following this, one needs to slowly find out what makes a pleasing photography.... how to crop, how much tweeking, etc..
I personally do not like to do too much touch ups like removing a branch, etc.
Analyzing works of art helps. Finding out what makes me like a picture hopefully will make me a better photographer. Takes time! |

Very nice and sharp. I agree with Dona, I would also have liked a bit more room around the head, and possibly the full bird. Nice angle of view at eye level.
Were you a little over zoomed, which lead to this rather tight crop? On one end you get more details. One could try to crop much more tightly and do a headshot! |

Thanks for these comments. I was really close to the ground but the river was in a gully! I totally agree that eye level would have been much better. |

Very nice action shot. Small animals do not have much luck with these nails! I like the wingtip blur (even at that shutter speed) as it illustrates the quick action. Tack sharp head, body, and legs.
Just wonderful. |
