The webinar was about Wabi-Sabi and the speaker had gorgeous photos of dead or half-dead things. One of our camera club members does stuff like that and wins a lot. I am not an expert but thought I'd share this with you. I thought the webinar was from PSA but it probably was one from the Maryland Photography Alliance.
Wabi-Sabi: The Japanese Philosophy For a Perfectly Imperfect Life. ... Imperfection is the basic principle of Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese philosophy of accepting your imperfections and making the most of life. "Wabi" is said to be defined as "rustic simplicity" or "understated elegance" with a focus on a less-is-more mentality ... |

I just had a 2 hour Tim Grey session that included using content award and I'm ready to try it again. Thanks. |

I like this version, although it would not qualify in Nature. So you could enter it in PID if you want. |

Now I must comment on the webinar I saw earlier that advocates not always taking photos of perfect flowers. They claimed that imperfect ones can also make great photos. I'm not sure this is the kind of imperfection they were talking about but I thought I'd stick in another opinion. |

Thanks for your comments. Maybe I'll try taking all but that one person out. |

I noticed the bee right away and thought why didn't you crop it (sort of the way Bev did)? I don't have a cell phone and the few times I tried to use one, I could not hold it steady enough to get the picture I wanted. However, my husband is taking more and more photos with his and talks about all the apps that are available so maybe you can look into those and they might help you get a sharper images of do something else that you like with these lilacs.
I'm glad you finally said something about how you got it and will look forward to info like this for your future images. Welcome to the group (if I have not done this before). |

Thanks for your comments. In a webinar I recently learned more about using content aware so maybe I will try removing the people. |

I like what you did but it could not be entered into a PSA nature competition because cloning is not allowed, only cropping. |

An appropriate photo for this time in our lives, although you may have taken it before the restrictions were in place. I like the photo and Neil's suggestion but I think his sky is a little too bright for my tastes. |

Thanks! I may work on the sky a little. The more I think about the color of the wall in Bev's example, the more I think "but that's not the color I remember" so I'm not sure I want to make it that yellow. Maybe we have to go back to France so I can refresh my memory about the color. Of course, I don't think we'll be going anywhere for quite a while. |

I never noticed them until I had posted it in this study group so no, I did not consider it. At this point I probably won't try it because it would be too difficult and because it actually gives a sort of scale to how big that wall is.
Thanks for your kind comments. |

I love it! Love the color and sharpness and black background. I can't find anything wrong with it. |

I looked again and your version of the wall is definitely better than some views of mine. It seems to depend on what light I'm looking at it with. |

I guess I like the wall better but I think the sky is a little too blue. I'm glad you got your computer back up and thanks for trying these things. Someday I may learn to use Topaz which I think I have. |

I know how hard it is to change setting while trying to shoot something. I'm not good at it either. Recently I heard some bird expert saying that you need a really fast shutter speed and gave some way to determine if it was fast enough but of course I've forgotten that now. Just enjoy your shot and don't obsess over how you could have made it better. |

Another great face and expression! I love how you get people's eyes looking at you and that they have a good expression. I agree with Bev about that bright window but otherwise I love the image. |

I love birds so I was glad to see you get such a good shot of Wood Storks and it confirms my belief that we should go to Belize. I'm a little confused about your "having the energy push beyond the right edge" because it looks like it's toward the left edge. I don't like that the bird is half chopped off but if that's what you wanted, that's OK. Most of the birds are pretty sharp but I wonder if you could have gotten them sharper using a higher ISO, a little more depth of field and a faster shutter speed. I still like the shot though. |

I love the color and sharpness of the petals. I wish that left petal still had it's tip but it's still a gorgeous shot. |

Thank you! I'd love to see what you get. Hopefully your grandson can come through for you. Does he live in FL too? |
