OK - I'm going to discuss this with my husband who has a much better understanding of light and dark, etc. Also, I'll try to contemplate it when I'm more alert. We just drove from the east side of Chicago to Fairmont, MN and had a good dinner and some wine so I think I'm not at my best right now. I really appreciate all these comments and am learning a lot from them. Hope you are having a good fall. It's great to see your comments again. |

I guess I'm confused about you thinking it is too dark. I guess I can see making the worker lighter but the engine is black. How can you make that lighter when it is black? Please explain what you mean by saying it is too dark. I admit I have problems seeing differences in lightness and darkness and where the light is coming from, etc. so I guess I must work on seeing these differences. Thanks for all your comments. |

I like this image, especially because I would never have thought to take it and certainly could not have made it look this good. I'm learning a lot from you. |

Someday I may be able to think about the direction of the sun's rays but now I just don't notice it. Good point though. |

It's funny what you don't notice as you work on an image. I think you got them. |

Good idea - I may try that at some point. Because it was a camera club trip to the Strasburg Railroad, I think I wanted to show more of the train. |

I'll tell my husband. He's the real railroad nut in the family. Have you been to the Strasburg Railroad? Thanks for you very nice comments. |

I love the composition and agree that it is better with that part of the tree removed. I would probably have tried to make it a little brighter and I prefer sharp images but can understand that you like the painterly effect. You say it was an old image - was it a print or slide? I've been scanning some old slides and was amazed to see all the spots in my skies which made me wonder it the spots in your sky are from the Topaz filter or whether it was from scanning an old slide? |

I loved this image from the first time I saw it and would not do anything to it! I agree with Bev about increasing the definition in the whites but I think the way she brightened the colors (especially that red and green part)detracts from the beauty of the flower. |

Can't believe you can make such a great image out of a pretty ordinary shot. How did you add the sun? I like the birds too. |

I like this image, especially the striped grass. I did not notice the light spot until Hildi mentioned it but I do like the way Bev fixed it. Whether to fix a light spot like that depends on whether you are going to enter it into a Travel Division competition. Then you could not fix it, at least that is my understanding. But, in PID there's no problem with doing it. |

I guess it's OK but I don't think it is necessary. The train was very black and I don't see why we should lighten it. If only the face could be lightened, that would help. Just my opinion but thanks for the comment. |
