I found the high pass filter and soft light blending mode but I don't know what to do with them. If it is easy to explain, that would help. Otherwise I'll try to find some tutorials or something (if I can ever find time for it). Thanks for your response though. |

I can understand that. I have been ready to give it up from time to time but I'm back on track to try to learn more about it. If you are doing well with Elements, there is not reason to drive yourself crazy with LR. |

I love this image too and your use of shallow depth of field is perfect. I'm wondering how you "worked on" the catch lights in his eyes? |

I was going to say pretty much what Bev and Nancy have said. I love the position of the boats and Bev's use of Topaz makes me think that maybe I should get that. Did you shoot this as a B&W or did you convert a color image to B&W? I like it! |

I think this is a lovely photo and if you are happy with it, don't mess with it. To answer Bev's suggestion I'm wondering if you use Lightroom or just PhotoShop? I recently got talked into using LR and there are some things that are much easier. For instance the Clarity and Vibrance sliders that can really make an image pop without increasing the saturation. I am no expert but I thought I'd mention this and that Scott Kelby's book about LR CC is wonderful. Of course, I must open it up all the time because I can't remember exactly how to do something I know he talked about. |

I admire people who can imagine things like this (which I cannot do). I'm not sure I would have figured out the meaning if you had not told me about it. I think the left one might look a little "soft" but it may just appear that way because it is lighter. It is an interesting image and is well-done. |

Bev, I agree with Joe and really like how sharp the eye is and that there is even a catch-light in it. The only thing I can think of to try is to crop it quite a bit and get rid of the stuff that isn't sharp. However, I don't know if others would think that is any better. Have you entered it so many different judges have looked at it? I can't believe none of them would have liked it. |

Thanks, Bev! Your comment made me feel good and I'll try to not let it go to my head. |
