I was talking about the white rectangle just under the violin and I don't really know what it is. |

Neil.
I only cropped this a little bit. With the lens at 450mm I was able to get the birds be pretty large. As I admitted to Cheryl I never noticed the dust spots but will try to be more observant in the future.

Cheryl,
Thanks! I never noticed the spots but will try to be more observant after this. I guess I was so excited that I actually got a flying bird that I forgot to look for anything else. |

Hildi, I don't use a tripod as much as I used to. However, I must use it with this heavy lens. |

Wonderful! It was just my opinion which is far from expert. |

Just be careful if it's a really light tripod that it doesn't blow over or get knocked over accidentally. We took very light travel ones to FL, forgetting that we had heavier ones which we could have taken because we were driving, and Dick's managed to flop over twice. Those lenses are really heavy so a sturdy tripod is better but we did manage with our light ones too. |

I like the composition and find the subject very interesting. However, I think it is too bright - does your histogram not show it as being over-exposed? |

I love his eyes and the sharpness of his features and using f2.8 made everything else fade away. If possible, I think having the complete hat captured would be better and I wonder if that white something on his shirt could be cloned out? These are picky little questions and certainly do not really detract from a great portrait. |

I agree with Bev about there being too many distractions. If you liked the knotted weed, why not just zoom in on that center one and try to not have anything behind it? Maybe impossible but I think I would have tried to make it much simpler. Exposure is good and once again you photographed something that I would not have noticed. |

I love the semi-circular arrangement and how sharp the flowers are. I'm glad the background is out of focus but sort of wish the while flowers could be less bright. Of course I don't know how you would do that (or whether you would want to). Anyway - it's a lovely image. |

I also love this image. Now I'm trying to remember if we ever saw an Aspen grove while in Denali. We probably did but I know I don't have an image of it, especially not this good. |

Bev,
Thanks - glad you like the bird. Dick and I both love the lens. Dick was also worried about buying them (we each got one) but he is really happy with how sharp our images are compared to our Nikon 80-400mm lens which we had been using. Dick got a Gimbal head so he can manage it better now. However, I'm doing OK with a regular head and am beginning to get better at finding the subject. I'm not even trying to hand hold it anymore even though I've been told that some people can do it. |
