Sorry Nick...a koi is a decorative fish that is usually found in garden pools or landscaped ponds. They are bred and prized for their colors, patterns, and fins. In this image, the fish's eye happened to be right in the open slit of the lily pad. This was lucky for me due to the delay with the W3 shutter and the moving fish.
I too agree the protruding plants make the picture...the position of the fish's eye is just the cherry on top. |

This is a difficult picture to take in a boat. You can't get too close to the bird or it will fly away...but since the bird is small to begin with, it loses the impact in the picture because it is a such a small part of the image. It was good to get a profile of the bird to maximize it's shape.

This is great and so different. There is a sense of real depth in the light streams and the road. I like the angles of the lines. The whole scene looks almost like a creative aurora borealis or something from Star Wars. The red lights and greenish road are pleasing together. The only thing I would suggest is cropping out the reddish and white lights at the bottom right edge to about the middle of the black space to the left of it. |

This image has a lot of nice 3D effects. I like the layering height of the trees that lead up to Mt. Rainier and that the tree section is not the same width all the way across the image...it gets higher on the right side to help hold the viewer in the image. Even the top of Mt. Rainier has a nice 3D effect so it doesn't look like a flat mountain against the sky. The reflection is also nice and you certainly put in a lot of work to make it effective. The only suggestion I would make is cropping more of the sky out and including more of the water at the bottom. It would make the bottom not look scrunched. |

I like the lily with it's "ragged" edges...and the leaf border. However, to me, the flower blends in too easily with the clouds in the background. I am wondering if a solid black background or deep royal blue might make the flower pop more; or possibly orange-ish sunset clouds? |

Yes, the image looks much better without the bottom sliced lily pad. I didn't notice the piece before but now that it is removed it helps to clean-up the image. |
