I now see that it is too bright on the right side. I agree that either of your suggestions would help. I am happy to have these suggestions. I liked the image before, but will like it better with these touchups. Thanks. |

I did not think of getting a better reflection when the moon was higher, but I think you are correct. Higher would have given a better reflection. Those barges on the far side of the river were not still. They were moving and caused some rippling of the water. In fact I had to wait for some to clear on my side of the levy so I would have reflections. I will go back and look and see if any of the later photos that evening have better reflections. This was best of the moon and that orange moon capture was foremost in my mind. Also the spot on the horizon where the moon rises varies every evening, so it is difficult to find "the perfect spot" and get tripod set up and ready in a timely fashion. Some places along the levy have tall trees that totally obscure the view of the river, so site selection is limited. Thanks for the suggestion. I have gotten that moon behind or beside the state capitol building and I usually wish for that, but it doesn't always work that way. I may see if one of those may work for April. |

thanks, Bob. Your take on decisions is helpful and really an interesting way to look at framing a photo. Thanks. |

Bob, I had to think about your image for a few days. It made me feel uneasy and I could not figure out why other than it was the composition in some way. I love trees and photos of trees, but this one needs something. All I can think of is for you to stand 10 ft. or so to the left and that means starting over. Maybe it it would help if you stood near the wood fence and had it lead into the tree with some space on the right to showing more of those beautiful mountains. Sorry, I am not much help, but that is all I can come up with at this point. |

Bob, thank you for viewing and liking my images. I did not realize the shore line was not straight, but is isn't. Thanks for catching that. I have photos of the moon as it rose higher, but the orange glow vanishes as it rises. Do you think the orange glow is believable that high in the sky? Or maybe it doesn't need the orange? I will have to study that a little to decide.
Since two of you great photographers think the trees should come out, I am sure that will help this image. I lost some good reflection when I tried to frame the photo without the trees so I will have to just eradicate them in the future. As they grow that reflection will be lost.
Hope you surgery went well. |

Thank you, Marilyn. I did not try to change the colors. I did add a little clarity and that enhanced a little. Because the moon was so low, it carried great color. |

Thank you, Ken. I never thouight about chropping out the shorline on the bottom or that bright building, but I think it is a good suggestion. I am so often torn over whether to include a piece of the shore line or not. What criteria would you suggest I use in deciding? I have never read anything on this question. Here I felt that those who frequently go to the park there would expect to see the trees. But that is not enought to make me include them if the image is better without them. |

That is a lot of smoke. Does Scotland have enviromental controls? There is q large Exxon Refinery here and very little smoke is discharged here. Rarely they burn off some gases and then it is very small. You captured the smoke very well. It has nice depth and color without blown out sections. I find the balance very pleasing. With one plume of smoke so large that was not easy. I also like the composition. Well done. |

Wow! That is the perfect S cruve. The colors are perfect. The brownish trees lead the eye to the darker black and white tracks. Everything is perfectly placed. Nice work. |

Ken, your processing is really nice on the houses. This is a beautiful scene and you captured it well. I have to ask, did you enlarge the moon? Because it is so large, it detracts the eye and holds it. The peaceful looking houses seem to be threatened by the huge moon. Possibly moving the moon behind the steeple would put it behind the buildings allowing the eye to move down the buildings to those nice warm buildings in the lower right. And relieving the "threat". I love those buildings. |

Marilyn, you also live in a beautiful part of the country. Every state seems to have its own claim to fame and is uniquely beautiful. You captured a great image. The white wave splash shows good color and depth. The action of the bird flying into the splash creats a good story. Your processing is spot on. My only thought for change would be a crop to move the bird of interest off center. In the sample I took a little off the left I felt that the smallere rock did not contribute, but the new composition carried the eye better in the pano format and retined the maine interest: the bird and the splash . Nice work. |

Larry, this is a beautiful scene. I have never seen hoarfrost, but it does make a wonderful photo. You live in a beautiful place. The swamps here are great at sunrise, but snow is never here in volume. Today will be close to 80 degrees. But we touched on 29 last week for a few minutes. The contrast of the early morning snow to the dark tree truncks is lovely. The blue reflection on the snow and the blue of the sky set the trees off beautifully and give a serene feeling. I guess the only improvement might be if your dog were playing in the snow, but that is a totally different photo. I really like this the feeling of this one. |
