65 Jan 18 Comment Angela, you have a very nice image of the butterfly here. Your composition is good giving the butterfly enough room without feeling too tight. Toning down the green background was a good idea, in fact, I probably would darken it even more and add a little vignette to keep the focus on your subject. You mentioned that you used f8 for the depth of field. I'm curious if you have any images in f11 or f16 to increase the depth of field without sharpening the background? This might have sharpened the body a little more. They are just a little soft as is the back wing.

It is nice to have such a wonderful place to photograph in the winter months.

65 Jan 18 Comment Charles, I would have sworn that I was looking at a piece of cloth! I wonder if you included some of the edge of the wing or a piece of the body in the photo; if that would help in identifying what we are looking at.

I don't own a teleconverter but might consider purchasing one to see if I can more magnification in my images. I do have a question. If adding the converter resulted in a 4.2x magnification when the lens is set at 3x. Would you have had the same result if you just set your lens at 4.2x which is in the range of your 1-5x manual focus.

Aside from the technical aspects, I do like the colors and textures of the image. I like the two orange spots and the scalloped pattern. I really enjoy the parallel vertical peaks that add the rippling effect. The colors are wonderful. How perfect nature is down to the most minute detail!

65 Jan 18 Comment I really like the "cleanness of this image". The pure white background with the primary colors of the pins and thread. I like the arrangement of the black snaps too. I think your choice of the directional light was a good one. The shadows it created adds interest to the photo. I noticed that the material you used for the base has some texture to it. It is much more noticeable in the shaded areas; that was a bit of a distraction for me. My only other minor suggestion would be to bring up the shadows in the black a bit more so that we can see more detail in the snaps.

Oh, and Happy New Years to you too!
