There are many elements in this image that appeal to me. First, your composition choice; I like having just a portion of the flower coming from the right side and bottom of the frame. I think I tend to use the opposite side and it was nice to see this perspective. The second element that I enjoy is the color saturation. There are no reflective hot spots to distract the eye. The third element that I enjoy is the texture. Although the flower is not tack sharp throughout, it appears to have been soften by intention, rather, than by accident. It has that velvety puffy quality in the petals. Your flower center is sharp which balances against the soft petals. Very nicely done. |

I just realized that I forgot to include the "How I Did It" with my image. So here goes....
Camera set up on a tripod with my macro lens (105mm). I also set up a light source to the left of the subject. The book was sitting on a mirror.
I took 20 raw photos shot in manual mode at 1/20 of a second at f.8. I converted all of the images to Tiff because Zyrene Stacker doesn't accept the RAW file format and I didn't want to have any compression of the files. I could have shot the images in camera as TIFF but I forgot to change my setting).
Once converted, I uploaded the images into Zyrene Stacker and let it do its magic. I was pretty pleased with the end result. I liked all of the scratches and evidence of aging so I opted not to photoshop any of the imperfections out. I think it helps tell the story of age.
This was a gift to me at my first communion, age 6, from my parents. So this book has been with me for many years and many places. Seemed apropos for the Easter season. |
