This is a very unique capture. You were very fortunate to be there at exactly the right moment. I love the way the bird on the right is looking up. Also, you did a perfect job of getting the birds sharply in focus, while also blurring the rain drops. Nice work! |

What a beautiful shot! Extremely sharp, gorgeous colors, great composition. I do agree that Isaac's crop removed some dead space and helped improve an already nice composition. |

Capturing razor sharp images of birds in flight is extremely difficult. I think you did an exceptional job of doing just that. Without going over the same territory as others, I'll simply compliment you on achieving an impressive image. |

This is a nice composition. The background is a pleasing color that perfectly frames the bird. We have lots of these at our ranch in Texas. They usually fly in pairs and often associate with buzzards or turkey vultures. They're easy to distinguish from the buzzards and vultures because of the white neck and wing tips. The buzzards and vultures generally dine on stinky road kill. So do these, but the caracaras also have a bad habit of going after live baby lambs and goat kids. |

I won't repeat the discussion about the cardinal looking a little soft, even on its breast. I think Isaac's crop enhanced the composition by moving him out of the center. Maybe I missed a comment about this, but the cardinal seems rather too yellow-orange. We have tons of them around our place, and what makes them so striking is the gorgeous red. Isaac's later crops seem to bring out the red more brilliantly. I also think your original had a better red. Somewhere in the processing, the red faded. |

This is a lovely image. The soft colors are very complimentary of each other and the owls are set against a pleasing background setting. In my opinion, I think you made exactly the right crop. The little birds needed that breathing space as well as to depict their natural environment. |

Thanks for your comments. I used a Canon 7D with a 70-300 lens. We were very close to the bird but probably shot at around 250-300mm. I balanced the camera on the doorframe of our car. |

I agree with Tom. I think your original is the better composition. While I always like images that depict action, the second version seemed busy and somewhat unclear about what was happening. |

I'll be quite honest: I'm not one in favor of replacing skies. All of us on this forum are skilled enough to work with what we're given in nature and still turn out beautiful images. So I come from a "purest school" of photography. Other than that, I do like your composition, especially how the shore leads to the lighthouse. I'm also glad that you didn't fall into the ocean! |

I agree about the blown highlights in the clouds. I've once seen someone handle these situations by copying a cloud and placing it over the highlight. It looked good in the demo, but due to the size of the light in this image, I'm not sure it would work. Anyway, nice composition, but I'm a bit uncomfortable with the tree centered in the middle. Maybe if you had taken a step or two to either side, you could have placed it off-center. |

Nice composition, exposure, etc. To me, it lacks a compelling focal point in the water or along the shore to capture the eye. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be looking at. I also think that the sunlight in the clouds might have blown out the highlights. |
