John, if I'm visiting a new place, I often buy a book depicting photos from the area. Like you, I use these as guides for where to capture the best shots. |

Technically, you did fine. To answer your question, I'd ask you a question: What is the subject of your image? To me, it's unclear. If you are trying to capture the tree in the foreground, you nailed it. If you were trying to capture the pretty pond, the tree is in the way. A couple of options would be to move behind the tree and capture the pond without its interference. Another option would have been to get lower to the ground, move slightly to the left and use only the low part of the trunk to frame the shot. In other words, you might get a more sweeping view of the pond by shooting lower while still utilizing the tree as an anchor on the right. Hope this makes sense. |

Another dynamic image. I enjoy how you explore new ways to see predictable scenes. I always say that one way to improve one's own photography is to study other photographers whom you admire. You provide us with many ideas and fresh techniques. This would look nice in a gallery. |

A beautiful, pastoral scene. Great use of the river to draw the eye into the shot and the mountains in the distance. The grasses also add a nice touch of color. I also like the way you captured the logs in the foreground. They work to anchor the image and balance the mountains in the background. |

I must admire your capabilities of stitching this image together -- wonderful job! I especially like how you captured the stars forming a rainbow-like curve stretching across the image. Another thing you did well was capturing just the faintest bit of light in the foreground to give us a hint of hills. Great job. |

I believe you did a very nice job with your composition. The focus of the attention was clearly on the red bluffs. I like the tree just the way it is. It seems to frame the distant buttes perfectly. Looks like your exposure and focus was spot-on perfect. Great job. Looks like it would make a beautiful picture postcard or notecard from the area. |

What a beautiful shot and an especially creative way of capturing it. Your capture of the Milky Way with the wisp of pink clouds in the bottom right is gorgeous. I've seen many photos taken at night using flashlights and strobes to light up an area -- but never with passing car lights. Bravo on such a creative use of the tools -- car lights -- that you had at hand.
