I believe Marti did a spot-on job of rescuing this image. It's much sharper, has a decent composition and leaves the eagle as the focal point. Al, I suggest your revision is too garish -- i.e. overly saturated. I think that enlarging the size of the rocks also enhances the lack of sharpness. |

I can always depend on you to come up with a creative approach that takes images to their next level. Wonderful job of totally transforming this one into a piece that pops off the page. |

Removing that screen was a real feat. Great job in taking a throw-away and turning it into something nice. |

I agree with Marti that this is taking a throw away shot and turning it into a piece that would be attractive hanging in a frame on any wall. The extra space added around the horse helps as well by giving it more room to run. |

I agree with what others said. Great job of plucking this out of the original image and making it an attractive photo. |

Ha! I was out in that country just last week. Wanted to get up at dawn and shoot Shiprock but was lazy and decided to sleep in and have a homemade burrito instead. The reason I thought about dawn at Shiprock is that I think that's about the best time to shoot it. Otherwise, the light is flat. I think the dawn shots really make the rock pop in color. Here you have an excellent composition but had to contend with less than perfect lighting -- a problem we all face constantly.

You are skilled at finding beautiful subjects! The difficulty I have with this particular shot is the composition: The stone stairs absolutely dominate the image and they are visually very boring compared to the other subjects around them -- temple, cherry blossoms, stone pillars, orange lanterns (?). I think your camera placement might be the issue here. If the temple is your main focal point, the stairs block most of the view. Perhaps you could have captured a better shot of the temple if you were further up the steps and avoided the domineering staircase. Perhaps you could have also gotten some nice shots of the cherry blossoms if you had been higher and shot the temple from an angle. Nice shots also available of the pillars and lanterns. |

This is a spectacular image! The Milky Way is perfectly captured. And the foreground looks like a painting. I love the way the trail (??) leads into the photo and the moon is framed by the cactus. Although it's usually a big no-no to include anything in the center of the photo, you nailed it here. The moon is just perfectly placed for this shot. Congratulations on such a fine capture. (Frankly, I wouldn't be spooked by the sounds -- I'd be afraid I'd step on a rattlesnake!) |

You're hitting some homeruns out there in Oregon. Excellent shots. I took the liberty of making a few adjustments in Lightroom. First, I cropped off the left to remove that partial tree hanging into your frame. I also cropped from the bottom to keep the trees since they make a nice foundation but removed the tiny pieces protruding from the bottom. I think the cropping brings more attention to the beautiful stars and sky in the center. I also adjusted the white balance slightly to create less of a brownish tone and more of a grayish tone. Also deepened the blue sky. Anyway, just a few suggestions about a different way to process a gorgeous image. |
