You are exactly right about the shadows and I wish that had been possible. However, we often work in tight quarters, such as stock pens or "alleys" such as this. Since livestock are almost always moving, there isn't but a second or two to compose an image and shoot. Unfortunately, the leading lines of the shadows ran directly into a shadow of an oak tree and were lost. Wish I could have gotten more but this was as leading line as there was. Thanks for the great observation, though. I'll continue to watch for that in the future. |

This is a fun shot and brought a big smile to my face. Nicely done. I agree with Joe that the structure on the right is a distraction. I think Joe nailed it with his version. |

Again, another creative application that continues to demonstrate the capabilities of Photoshop. I like the composition and the way the pier and shadows pull the eye in. The flag gives the image a pop of color and the figure adds a sense of scale. |

The curved bow in the center, to me, is a nice eye-catching element. That's where my eyes first landed, and then glided up on either side to the mountain range and clouds. I tend to agree with Jerry that my preference is for the color version. To me, the black and white lacks enough tonality differences as there seems to be stark black and white and not a lot in between. |

This is the perfect vertical image. I also like how you cropped out the bright sky on the right, which would have been a distraction. The two big pipes lead the eye directly to the man hanging in the rigging and gave us a focal point for your picture. I think you did a great job. Very tragic ending to the image. I wouldn't do that job for a zillion dollars. |

I like the black and white version. Personally, I found it hard to determine what your subject matter was. When I look at it, my eyes first center on the bow of the ship and then follow the rigging off into space. In an ideal world, it would have been nice to have a sailor or something to hold my attention at the tip of the rigging. The other option might have been to focus more closely on an individual element of the scene and use that almost an abstract image. |

This is well composed. I love the line of the Tetons and how they are reflected in the river. I also line the various zones of color, from the blues of the river to the oranges of the shrubs and trees, to the grays of the mountains and blues and whites of the sky. Your removal of the stick was so nicely done. I agree with Jerry that the images appears too dark. My personal impression is that HDR actually detracts from the image, rather than enhances it. You had a beautiful scene and I think you captured it best of all in your original! |

When I shot this photo, I used an automatic focus. Big mistake! It went crazy trying to focus on so many objects. Next time I'll use a manual focus, a smaller aperture and focus on a set point. Hopefully this will help improve the sharpness. And yes, I'm hopeful Nancie and I can meet up there. My wife and I will be there during a weekend, so that will be more convenient for her to join us. |

Thanks for your comments. We're planning on being at Bosque again Jan. 22-24. I will upgrade my camera to a Canon 7D by then and rent a nice Canon 100-300 zoom lens. Hopefully, I can improve the sharpness of my images over the cheaper kit lenses I have. If you get a chance, drop down and say hello! |

You did a great job in your processing. I love the darkened figures walking along the road, the colors are brilliant and the golden stripes down the highway draw the eyes into the image. Well done. |

This is a beautiful fall scene that you captured well. The autumn colors of the trees, their reflection in the water, and the band of white pelicans made this image stand out. I do think you have too much vacant space on the left. I suggest cropping out the pelican on the left and just up to the yellow tree on the shore. I believe this would draw even more focus to the main flock of pelicans on the water. |

You continue to blow me away with such beautiful images from your part of the world! As usual with your work, this was well composed. I do wish there had been a fisherman somewhere it the scene to give it more of a focal point, but sometimes you just have to work with what you have. Some of the blues and reds across the tops of the waves seem very artificial, probably due to some processing issues. And when I look at the long, curved poles across the tops of the nets, I see what appears to be some sort of glow that extends beyond the tips of the poles themselves. Maybe this was caused by the sun but you might check to see if it's a result of over-processing. |

This is a beautiful image that would be a wonderful addition to a 2018 calendar. I love the different bands of color and the gorgeous New Mexico sky. I also agree with you that the softness is what you normally see there when looking at distant mountains. A fine job! |

Well composed, especially with the walkway leading to the pond while tree limbs kept the eyes from wondering off the top of the image. Your processing certainly enhanced the colors. Like Pat, I would have left the people in the picture. I don't think there's anything wrong with including them, and they certainly add scale and more of a human or story interest. It's obvious by the well-worn trail on the left that this isn't some remote wilderness, so why try to hide the fact that people enjoy this area. |
